To do the Rebel flight groups, do you at any point need to be a Rebel on the ground?

When you sign on with a rebel flight squadron it will automatically set you to "rebel on-leave" on the ground.

If you do the Vortex squadron (Moenia start) you will have to be combatant to reach some of your trainers, but you can declare in Moenia, fly to dant, do the missions from the dant station and land right at the base, then run in and out without facing any stormtroopers, fly back to Moenia and go back on leave.

(Most useful for crafter/entertainer pilots).

Well I ask because my guild is pretty strictly Imperial. I don't mind going Rebel for a few minutes /wink /wink as long as nobody notices but I can't be running around for a week doing the squadrons while I'm a stinky Rebel.

There's no way to do the Rebel squadrons without being Rebel. As for Vortex and going Combatant, I always preferred to use the Rori Rebel Base to declare.
