Is it possible to stay imperial in space and become a rebel on the ground? And if so would it then mean that i could achieve the arc 170 mission?

You need to be Rebel, Smugglers Alliance, Corsec in space to finish the missions anyway.

Technically...you can get a space rebel friend to do the last part of the ARC mission while you give moral support...So no you don't have to be rebel, smug, or corsec in space....just rebel on the ground.
