Thread: Warning when using programmed chips

I have seen several people posting about using programmed chips and the droid command is not showing up. I had the same experience (and lost 3 chips).

When you add a normal pilot command to your FC/Astromech it will check if data storage is full or not and give you a warning message. But this does not happen when you use programmed chips. Everything will look fine, the command will go into the FC and when commiting it will say it adds the command but after it will not show up.

So check how much storage (use the radial mun in datapad to show the storage of FC) you have left and the size of the command on the data chip (use examine to show data size) before you add it.

Try closing your datapad and reopening it after programming a chip. It seems the chip IS programmed but the list of commands do not update automatically. The closing and opening of the datapad should show you what's really been newly programmed into the droid/flight computer.

Aslo make sure you dont use level four commands except Shield to shunt. I did and my grievous ship is now disabled. Nothing I put in it works, I loaded all the parts into my JSF and they work just fine. Im going to try again at server restart, but atm I cant even redeed the grievous ship.

The original poster is correct - if you do not have enough space in your droid/FC it WILL still let you add the chip command (destroying the chip) and tell you the change has been made but the command will NOT be available.

This happened to me a couple of times before I realised what the problem was

I was under the impression that FC chips could only be programmed once. If you are adding a program to an an already loaded chip, it would stand to reason it wouldnt work.

I am talking about loading a programed chip into the flight computer.

Also there are some issues with commands you have added to flight computer that do not show up until you reload the FC on your ship. But that is another issue.

To make sure everything works fine I would suggest the following check list:

1) Check how much space you have left in your flight computer and data size of the new chip you want to load. If it exceed the storage space then you have to remove something or use a lower level droid command.

2) Add chip to FC and commit.

3) If you want to check the command was added correctly then close daapad and check again

4) Unload fc and load it again into your ship

I've had this problem happen several times and found a small workaround for it:

Add one ready chip to FC/Astromech and commit it. Add one chip and one chip only or else it will wasteall chips. Then program the FC/Astromech with the next chip and commit it. Repeat for any chips remaining. After all the chips are added and commited, add regular programs like normal.

Here's another tip:
Read the Pilot FAQ. You will find in there the FC levels and how much data it can store. All the droid programs and their data size are also in there.

Darthfodder, it's a bug, you just need to deed the ship and equipment will work again. Although someone suggested using a pilot special like Ethrust or EWeapons, you might see if that resets it.
