Thread: Advice for Freelance (Corsec) Imperial corevette mission

I guess this is my last mission to get master pilot, and I've read the 5 easy steps to doing the vette solo; so now I have some questions. I've never used missiles before and since my Rihx is loaded out with stuff, where can I look to get the mass for the missle launcher/missles? I run three guns now so I assume I could drop one. Can I safely drop my armor down to free up some mass, if I've got decent shields? 1945.* front and back. What other components can I scrimp on to free up mass? boosters maybe?

Thanks.

Post your ship loadout and I am sure you will get some responses where you can cut mass. The likely culprits are Reactor, Wep capacitor, Droid interface. Often new pilots will load parts according to lvl instead of stats.

On the Missile Launcher itself, the missile packs will note the damage. You're Best bet would be Mark III Concussion missiles. the missiles can do almost 9k damage

If you need mass for the missile launcher, sure, go for it, but see about sticking in a really low mass gun if u have room afterwards

I personally wouldn't reccomend it. My 2555.1 shields got shredded when i got just a lil too close

Check to see what the combined energy per shot(s) are on ur guns and get a capacitor who's recharge matches that number, might (if you're using capacitor overcharge 4 u'll need half the capacitor charge) Lower mass droid interface, but try to keep the speed at least in the 20s. Tin can armor would work, i've got a pair of Mark II crafted armor on my ship. Mark II booster.

Thanks.

My Rhik was loaded with 2 lvl8 guns, lvl8(?) DI, 1lvl7 crafted gun, lvl7 crafted shield, some protons and a lvl6 engine. The rest of the parts were low lvl (2-4) re'd. I had enough room left over for a little armor which I use mostly because that empty circle on the display annoys me for some reason. Get yourself some low level/low mass parts and use overloads. It only takes a missle or two to take out a component on the 'vette so definitely use missles even if you have to sacrifice armor, which is of little use on that mission anyway, IMO.

The booster is the easiest part to drop. I run with out them in my small fighters cause honestly I almost never use them. You can often find Mark1 or Mark 2low mass capacitors and reactors to cut your mass dramatically. Also drop down a level on your armor, if they get to your armor chances are the extra few hundred HP wont make a bit of diffrence any way and many people run without armor (I dont recomend it) simply because at that level your armor will not deflect a single hit if your shields are down.

Screw the missiles huge waste of mass and money for what little they do. The best ship to use is a heavy skyke, JSF or B-22. You want a high YPR engine so you can dodge the turret fire better. Make sure you are useing a flight computer with the 4 overloads and cap to shield shunt.

After dispatching the fighter escort, shoot off weapons 4 and 5 it only takes 2-3 hits. This is where I do the responsable and polite thing by killing the 2 gunboat escorts. Once those are gone I strip the rest of the vette's weapons and finish the job.

Do you use a jousting method? Those gunboats seem to hit pretty hard with 7 (?) weapons. I suppose if I used a lower lvl cap and reactor I could probably free up some mass to put some of my looted heavy guns on. My DI is 7.8k running at 15.7, that's the best combination I've looted, is that okay to keep or should I look for something lower? I'm kind of excited to try this, can't wait for work to be done

do not joust with gunboats (head-to-head)

attack them from beneath them, they cannot hit you there

just strafe back and forth beneath them, you shouldn't take any fire if done right

they are set in a fixed escort formation, they will not turn to chase you

as soon as you take out the corvettes weapon 5 turret, you can take out the gunboats easily if you're careful

I've been hitting gun 5, then if you carefully scoot under the vette you can be sheltered from the gunboats and take out the shields, then drift back and hit the engine and let the gunboats fly away. Then you can creep up on the remaining turrets and scrape them off. Hit the reactor and bridge and you're done.

I've only done the rebel one, don't know much about the reb gunboats, but if they're all the same, you can let the gunboats fly to the exit where they'll sit spinning in circles and you can hit them from the 560m bugged distance (you can hit them but thay can't hit you). I do fly-bys and strafe because it seems faster. The last few I've looted have yielded level 10 capacitors, guns, shields, and a level 8 shield.

Killing the gunboats en route is far easier than letting them coast to the exit point. Fly under them, match speed, point your nose at the belly, and blast them. I do this after I take gun5 and before I do anything else to the Corvette.

Aside- if you do decide to take out the engine and let the gunboats go, make damn sure you go kill them after. It's only polite to not bug the spawn for the next guy.
