Missiles are actually a lot better in PvP than PvE.

last night i had a guns only awing on awing duel, and i got tone with my spacebomb mkII rack about five times before i finaly tagged him with guns. 25k dmg missile, hows THAT for one hit capability.
no missile is outrunnable, they fly a certain percentage faster than their target does. i could launch a spacebomb at someone as they enter hyperspace and teh missile would cross the sector in a heartbeat (but do no damage on impact of course)
chaff will defeat a spacebomb, but i use them only while in the middle ofa dogfight at close range. wheni am using missiles, i hold the launch button down and go for a gun kill. when you are in a turn fight at that range they dont have time to react and deploy countermeasures.

It's very manouverable, has a small profile (slightly bigger than the a-wing) and its high mass means you can stick some really nice high end components in there.
It's disadvantages are it only has 1 gun and 1 missile slot (like the a-wing) so you need to make sure you put a really big high damage weapon in to make it viable.
