The point of having 2 pilots along is that you get increased firepower. If you're just sitting there while your wingman fights, then its back down to 1 pilot shooting. Don't fly off to chase baddies AND ignore the escort, fly off and chase baddies, but keep an eye on him and swing back close from time to time, spatial awareness is an acquired skill, and if you get so focused on shooting that you dont know where you are,you ought to practice it some more.
A couple ofcrowd control typetactics: boost into a wave when it appears and pop epulse on them, as long as they are all bunched together, take advantage of it, and make yours and your wingman's job easier by weakening the shields. If you begin to fall behind on the kills (new waves come in before you finish off even half the one you're on) then switch to disabling engines and leaving them to burn until you catch back up. Disabling is faster, and will keep you caught up, not getting xps for a kill is less important than completing the mission.
As for your your gear, here are a couple recommendations
the reactor is more than you need, and probably too heavy, especially if you're running reactor overload.
dump the Ion cannons in favor of blasters.
we cant tell how good your stuff is based on name alone (except for the crafteds those fall within a predictable range). if you dont know what good stats are, then you shouldfollow the linkin the FAQ about components, and get the skinny.
Quick advice based on your rough ship sketch:
Make sure your shield is up to snuff, get a Lvl 7 crafted shield with 1600-1900 hp.
Dump the Ion Cannons, if you mean they are player crafted Ions. 2 blasters will be far more efficient. If they are looted guns with the name "ion cannon" again, make sure they are up to snuff and somehow better than 2 player crafted L7 blasters.
Basically player crafted L7 guns and shield are your baseline. If what you are using is superior to those, and you're still having trouble, then we need to go into detail with your loadout. If what you're using is inferior to those, then you need to upgrade.
