I am working on my last box( half way filled)and the only mission I get from Mr. Irritable on Lok is kicking my butt! I go to help the Alliance strike at a Imp space station, but all the teir 4s chew me up in now time. After I eject I have another mission to cover the retreat. And those waves of ties come in so fast its impossible. I am using a regular X-wing with lvl 8 shields (1700 hitpoints and 14 recharge rate I think), got a lvl 8 gun as my main, with a lvl 7 and lvl 5 crammed in there too. but the I have been having problems with all tier 4 ships chewing through my shields. I use cap shunt to shields four and various other overload programs. I have tried this mission in my arc-170 and my longprobe but no success. I don't think I am a bad pilot, I swerve enough to make anyone watching my screen dizzy. I do alot of the tactics described in the FAQ.I have soloed my entire grind up untill now. No one in my guild is high enough to be of help, but I would really like to solo this out for bragging rights

What am I doing wrong? Is there a better arrangment of equipment I should be using or better tactics? I would really appreciate any feedback on this. Why do teir 4s tear me up so much?

hope this comes out as explainable... but one method i find works when i'm being overwhelmed in dogfights... as it can take some practise to work right...

is look out for on the radar for the clumps of fighters, weres theres 2/3/4 fighters all flying in formation together and go crazy...head straight for them... shoot alittle at all of them if you can, send them into evasive mode as such, take one (or two if theres alot)out, and look for another clump of fighters on the radar.

You can just disable them, be taking out engines, some find this a good method,by slowing down the spawnsin the process, but make sure you destroy them later before they auto-destruct or else i notice you dont get any xp.

You have to learn to use better and different tactics than just standard dog fighting rules, take advantage of there AI, and "scare" them into evasive mode and to fly out of formation. This works to stop the bigger formation of fighters tailing you and blowing your ship to bits all at once, if there all split up, and out of formation there alot less effective to your sheilds.

As you like to fly an x wing also, i recommend you get yourself a mark IV engine, high speed, 95+ 65/65/60 rates (or near enough), thottle it to about 60% to 70% full power when in a dogfight and you'll find yourself very manourable for an x wing. Also if your trying to avoid being shot, if you pull up or down diagonally you can turn alot faster, and thus make you harder to hit, use that to your advantage if you've got lots tailing you, and you need to reverse it asap.

Also i prefere to go with 2 lvl 8 weapons, rather than use all 3 weapon slots and need to use less powerful guns, because of mass i assume.

Thanks, really appreciate the info. I guess I was thinking to much ofmy dogfight movement to consider the AI, going to try that next time I am up. And redo the guns. I am a mainly a self taught pilot, but unfortunately I learn slow LOL.
