Thread: Y-8 Quest Need help with tractor beam

I am on the part of the quest where you have to use the tractor beam to transfer cargo from a disabled freighter. Every time i fire the tractor beam at the freighter I get the message "incrementing count" on my screen. I keep firing and eventually the freighter explodes with nothing in my cargo hold and no mission complete message. I go back and take the mission again with the same result. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

do you also have a weapon loaded that is firing at the same time as the tractor? Use the number keys at the top of the key board to fire JUST the tractor

I had this same problem, and on the advice of another thread (don't have a link, sorry), I got past it. It does seem to be a bug with the mission.
If I remember correctly, ungroup, get the mission again, but this time don't "Launch". Use "Travel" instead to take you directly to any port on Corellia (or whatever planet's system the mission is in), then launch form Corellia into space.
The mission should now work. Hit the transport a few times with the tractor beams (take it slow just to be safe) and some ships should spawn to attack you...and go from there.

I dont know how i completed it on the first try, but i didnt know you could use the number keys to fire seperate weapons so i just fired the two other guns beside the ship and then the tractor beam at it, then i got bored and started firing, it blew up and said i completed the mission.
