How do I change "mousemode" so that I can actually interact with the space station & land?

I dont know how to change the mousemode.... whatever that is
, but when you want to communicate with the starport, you target it with the X key on the keyboard, then type in /comm press alt so you can move the mouse around... wait is that mousemode??? oh well, then click your options. When i was a noob i just opened up a window like inventory then used the mouse that way, but pressing alt is better because when you are heading to a wp, you wont move around and you can look at your email and stuff.
