Ok, the subject is true. I've been a stupid pilot. The following comments, hints and lessons were hard earned.
- Read the Profession forum to learn about Pilots
- By clicking on the Space Terminal you get to select your ship.
- After you select your ship from the Space Terminal you can Travel (go to another spaceport even on another world) or you can Launch (go to outspace near the space station for the planet you are on)
- After selecting your ship from the Space Terminal you can also modify your ship by clicking the button on the far left. It shows you a screen with all ship parts available in your inventory and allows you to compare to whatever you have installed in your ship now.
- Better parts are available as you level pilot.
- When you compare parts you want to pay attention to the Mass of the item. You ship can only hold a certain amount of mass. If a part is a few points better than your current item but the mass exceeds what you have in your ship... you might want to consider NOT putting the more massive item into your ship.
- Level 3 parts are superior to level 1 parts. When you have enough points for a box in the first row of Pilot I recommend you go Components. Then shop around and soup up your vessel.
- A ship with level 3 parts pawns a level 1 badguy. A level 1 badguy AND his friends. hahah
- Your space map shows waypoints. If you right click on the waypoint name you will get extra options. One of the best options is to travel to the waypoint on autopilot.
- If you are sitting at a Hyperjump waypoint and nothing is happening... click on the map and then choose the planet zone you want to jump to. If you don't... you'll sit there a very long time. haha
- Your ship is fast but in combat don't go at full speed. Slow down to half or 3/4 speed. You can target the enemy better when you can wheel inside his arc.
- If you have the mouse activated and you see that nifty little string of blue boxes but want to look at your map... just hit the "N" button to navigate. When you are done hit "N" and you are back to your maneuvering view.
- When approaching a space station on Autopilot the ship will often stop short because you are about to ram the spacestation. You can maneuver over or around the spacestation and head straight to the waypoint... and once you are close the spacestation traffic control will speak to you and you can land. But if you don't want to do that then hit "C" to target the spacestation then manually type "/comm". If you are close enough they will talk to you and you can land.
- Small movements of the mouse during combat will help you win. If the bad guy tries to change direction you will be able to respond quickly because you did not power past him and have to change direction so drastically to get him under your guns.
- The Reactor = power. Engine = movement. Get the reactor that will supply you with the most power. Don't forget to buy a Booster and install it. If you are in a hurry hit the "B" button to accelerate for a short period of time. I use this to get to waypoints faster. hahaha
Ok, that list contains information on some of the frustrating and stupid things that I didn't know about. What about you? Have anything to add?
