Joystick. i had to use my mouse for a day when my ne pc's usb ports were not working and i could not even fly strait with mouse
actually it's not that bad but hard to auto straighten is only thing
to just straighten out for transit's though hit alt twice
Mice and Keyboardlings do me fine.
Especially if I feed it enough cheese.
As for keyboards..erm, they don't like cheese
I made the area bigger, which gave me alot better control and made my flying alot easier...
During a tense fight it can be hard to target precise with a small control area, becuase you move fast around, and making it bigger will ofcourse give alot more mouse movement, but accuracy bonus is far greater if you ask me
making some small macros with /Throttle 0.25; 0,50; 0,75; and 1.0; (or which ever speed where your ship handles good) and dropping them in the F1->F4 slots also help with Roll binded to Q and E, and some Regrouping of weapons fire.
It probabaly takes some practice, but I bet its just as good as using a Joystick..
I like my game pad. Very quick control of roll and throttle. I just use a standard USB Playstation clone, NYKLO Airflo or something. The default gamepad settings work great, and the thing even has a fan in to cool your hands. Played mouse/key combo for a couple weeks and find the gamepad far superior, especially in the change speeds area, which is the key to combat maneuverability (for me anyway).
But this is defintely a preference area...
