I am a privateer for the RSF. My buddy is flying Imp. Do I have to be IMP to group with him in space and do missions? How about to group and not do missions?

No to both... Imps and rebels can group together... the mission might be a bit tricky but RSF is imp aligned so that shouldn't be a problem even during the missions.
