Maybe this issue's been talked about, but if not, I'm glad to have posted this.
In my squadron, we don't physically help pilots until at least late tier 3 (depending on the difficulty of the mission). We do this because:
1. We will end up killing everything in our path. The master pilot to be will end up either frustrated or dependent upon the guildmates in the futre overmuch.
2. Forces the future master to learn their ship.
3. Gives the future master pride.
It's not that we are forcing them to solo, but with the abundance in good parts and advice, it's not that bad for a player to solo up to that level. Then when it starts getting hard, others will begin grouping up with the player. Non-masters if at all possible, since our serious masters can and will destroy everything in a blink of an eye, leaving the trainee in the space debris.

I do agree with you on some points however flying together can help them too.
However, you could consider equipping a lower level ship with parts, maybe even completely looted parts that are low level and go with them on their missions.
I've been a master privateer for quite a while now and with my alt I am working on Imperial Pilot. Going back to the low level days helps a lot.

my personal rule is that I help no one with any mission until they have tried it solo once, and with tier 3 and 2 they have to have tried it solo twice. I will give advice and help a newer pilot outfit his ship if they aren't too familiar with what makes a good component. If the mission is low tier (3 or lower) I will downgrade my ship to a a starter chassis and put in low level components so that the guy I am helping can still feel like he is doing a significant portion of the mission. I hate going out and feeling like I am doing it for them. Luckily no one ever did my missions for me, I had help, but I was lucky enough to be working through tier 4 about the same time as the first group of pilots in my guild that mastered. I remember for my last tier 4 mission before 30 kills in Kessel I took a group of 5 of my friends with me and only one of them had made master, and he flew in his Awing, which he did not touch till after he mastered and he was still getting used to. The rest of us were in X and Y-LP's and we still had a heck of a time with it. I think it has made me an excellent pilot to have soloed most every mission I have taken, and if I did not solo it, I never asked for help until I had tried and failed a few times. I want to help make excellent pilots, I do this by withholding my help

Ya i dont like helping out with XP very much. Nothing is worse than an "ace" who is asking the most basic of questions.

Really, you don't learn much on Tier 1 or Tier 2. Nothing to do with those missions were really difficult at all, I have no problems with filling the xp requirements and allowing the people to solo their missions. They'll be in Kessel all through Tier 4 trying to get the xp requirements, so it's no big deal that they get help through the earlier tier. Killing Tier 4/5 craft is really what's made me the pilot I am today.

I help guildmates who have limited playtime with XP. A lot of them have families and only 1-2 free nights a week to play, so spending that time grinding solo isnt going to be fun for them. We find a situation that works for us, and gets them the xps. We do what's fun for us, not necessarily the most efficient thing. They're all experienced gamers and not likely to be "noobish" even after my help, so that's not an issue. When dealing with others though, I follow most of the same rules, and I don't grind with them, nor do I go with them the first time through on a mission.

Agree completely, it is no different than those players that grind a profession to master and have no real knowledge of the profession.

These have been the unwritten rules of the server I play on - Shadowfire. Well known killer missions like the Teir 4 Decimator Rebel mission, gets offers of help before people try; expectations are that you've tried the mission solo at least once. It's good to formalize this for people though.

i tried my tear 3 mission 1 for storm squadron 32 times before i got help with it (my Tie/In was in real bas shape after that). then it took another 4 times aftder that to get it compleated. it was then that i realized how much work i needed to become a great pilot. after my tear 3 nightmare i then soloed tear 4 and the 30 ship sloughter. before the week is out i'm going to make my second attempt at the vette, the first time it hypered out before i got done with it.
we need to help out young pilots, but not do there work. go with them, guide them on there tear 1 adn 2 mission. sit in your big bad ship and watch them, let them know what there doing wrong or how they can do something better. thats how we can make better pilots.
