Howdy folks! I just wanted to pop in here and see if there are any other Track IR users around in SWG. I know it's an option in JTLS as I've been using it since I picked up the expansion a couple days ago. Lucky I had the Track IR3 Pro handy from my World War 2 Online days.

It's simply amazing in JTLS, even better then the other flight sims I've played around on. You can look around your cockpit with amazing accuracy, see where targets are coming in a split second. No fumbling for the mouse, no messing with the hat switch. It's a fantastic tool that I rate right below my joystick forFS games.

I remember playing the JTLS beta before I cancelled my account and one of the exact things I was thinking was "I wish they would add Track IR support." I was floored when I reactivated and went through the options to tweak my settings, and saw the Track IR box. At that very moment I ordered JTLS because I knew I had to experience SW with Track IR.

If this sounds like an ad, it's not. I'm just so in awe of having this available in this setting. If you haven't experienced Track IR in JTLS yet then do it, it's really stunning.

So here is one big heartfelt thank you to the devs who did this oh so right.

I used it once, maybe twice and havn't gone back to it. Just strikes me as a novelty and too unresponsive to prove useful and cumbersome for any length of time.

It'sgreat for cockpit views, turn head, look around but since I mostly fly to HIT targets I often have the view zoomed out and in external view the effect is unwelcome. So it remains a novelty IMO.

The TrackIR 2 promises faster response response times and it certainly could use it on my computer. Plus the view tends to jiggle occasionaly like I've gota head tick. Maybe I just need the latest TrackIR, one where you can lean around and tilt your head seems much better, but what the promo videos can't show is the delay time between you moving and the visual response time which is very important for me. Otherwise I just get sick.

See http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/for info, videos, ads, the usual gubbins.

Yeah, I am using the latest version. There is something called a Vector expansion that clips onto the track hat, gives you 6 degrees of movement. That however, has to be coded into whatever game you're playing. Hopefully that will someday make it into JTLS.

Track IR is a infra red device you stick on top of your monitor or whatever you use a a play space. You then stick, either a reflective dot on your forehead or buy the hat with the reflective surface built into the brim. It then tracks your head movements and displays them as you looking around in game. It's very very cool, and after tweaking your settings the way you want them your situational awareness goes through the roof. You can literally have your head on a swivel. I don't even need the guide arrows or my radar to see where I'm going in a fight because of this thing, just by feel and looking around I know where to turn.

www.trackir.com is the website, read up on it if you're interested. I'd have to say Track IR is an expensive toy, worth it to those that spend the time to get used to it. It's taken me a few months and several different flight sims with constant tweaking to my config file to really get it where I want it. But there is no going back once you have this thing cruising.

I just can't wait to get into an X-wing so I can get a better look outside of my cockpit (yes, you can turn it off but I like it on =) )

Frankly speaking as long as there is no pvp in space there is no need for track ir. However, if the situation change I may consider buying one...

i feel like i should mention that TrackIR's new 6DOF breakthrough isn't fully supported by JTL's cockpits. But using Vector Expansion will still make the 2DOF experience better, because TrackIR will know the difference between rotating your head and leaning in your chair (so it's much more stable and responsive)

Many thanks for the enthused praise!

Did you use a TrackIR 1 or 2? TrackIR 3-Pro with Vector Expansion is really light years ahead of the old TrackIRs.
If you've had probs with it, contact us. Stop by our forums. If you ever had to struggle to control it, then it really wasn't set up right. The jittering you mention was a common issue 2 years ago, but has been fixed with better features (new image processor, better smoothing and dead-zones).

If you guys don't mind, i'd strongly encourage you both (all?) to stop by our website and fill out the current survey. We really struggling to gather feedback about the experiences hard core gamers have had with the device (as well as what they'd like to see from it). Plus some of the people who complete the survey will get a free TrackIR3-Pro with Vector Expansion.
