I keep reading threads trying to learn how to take out those stupid gunboats. Most those threads talk about only doing it with guns but are these people already Master pilots because I can't even get the shield to drop in the slightest.
I'm trying to do my tier 4 smuggler mission with the 4 Imp aces and then you have to blow up a imp gunboat. this thing turns to attack the moment you start your attack and I can't even damage that rear turret before I'm left drifting in space.
What am I doing wrong. I can target a shield subsystem but it doesn't highlight any area in peticular to shoot and the if you try to do a hit and run the gunboat speeds upto 1500m/s and out runs me easy.
Are all these threads written before the CU if so what do you do now?

missionspawned gunboats are very nasty because they do hunt you (no other gunboats will do that), what you need is lots of firepower, load that Rihkxyrk up with your 3 best gun (in terms of damage per second, with efficiencies calculated too), your best shield, your best capacitor, your fastest droidcontroller etc....
Aggressive gunboats are especially hard for privateers because all ships you have are quite large and get hit a lot.
Try to find a wingman to help you, 2 decent pilots can in this casetear apart that which tears apart solo pilots
is Iw-Ip you ingame name?

Gunboats kinda work like a composite of fighters and vettes.
While you can target indevidual weapons like a vette, unlike a vette you still have to take out it's shields and armor before you can hit the indevidual components, like a fighter.
And it doesn't matter where you hit it on a gunboat, you can hit it from the front and still take out the rear turret if that's what you have selected, you just need to down it's shields and armor first.

Get some help is the easiest answer. You really only need one person. Basically you play pickle with the GB.
Get it to aggro on your friend and have it follow on him/her. Take up the traditional position below and behind and tear into the rear turret to open up the blind spot. Once it aggros on you, switch roles. I've seen this work well, the decoy just has to be survivable, or know when to bail before things get too bad. IFF Scramble and Shield Shunt can really save your bacon.
The aggro GBs are just a pain to try and deal with and unless you have huge amounts of firepower it just isn't worth the decay to try and solo them. It is possible, but expensive and frustrating.
One or two friends who are heavily armored and shielded as decoys can really make all the difference. You are also spreading out the GBs firepower, not letting it concentrate on one person which is basically the same as being a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.
