By all means ,
This is just some Ideas on buffing up the heavier fighters deffenses. Hopefull in an esay to code way.
Now the reasons for buffing the heavier ships deffenses has been discused at length elswhere.
So ;
We all know that multiple guns are better than single guns, at the same mass. It's the way the game has been written.
So why not make multipe shields , and multiple armour an advantage of the heavyer ships. And let them stack.
So the B-wing , Y-wing , bomber, oppressor, et al [I dont know the neutral ones] would get some extra component slots.
Exactly which ships get which extra components would need testing [as if] . But you could start from the lower tier bomber classes with 1 extra armour front and back. Then the more hi-tech heavy's get an extra shield front and back.
Since we dont know how the elite components will work out in PoB's ..as they are still broken , these ships are tough to judge.
But they would be in line for something . Possibly 2 elite shields stacked and they might to start to perform at level equivilent to 3 players in fighters.
A similar Idea I had is for the PoB ships only. Double turrets, yes 2 guns in a single turret, firing at the same X-hair.
With the Y-8 getting limited use doubles, ie 1 mining laser and 1 tractor beam. And it can fight off pirates, A good mining laser is enough to kill a fighter.
With a fixed forward single mining laser as well [for the big asteroid] a y-8 set like that would make multiplayer mining a serious proposition.
Although the fixing of WO3 will make for more aiming in the game, it wont cure rthe 1 hit kill problem on slow ships. [Fast ships should be dodging]
And a final note ...cut one gun off the JSF.
