any word on whether the Y8 is working yet for mining? There's some stuff on TC right now that would indicate that space mining is about to become very popular all of a sudden and i'd much rather use the fat cargo hold on my Y8 than chasin stuff with my Krayt cuz my Y has never worked. 
Vehicles
All vehicles, jetpacks and restoration:
- Restoring a disabled vehicle will now require a vehicle restoration kit (formerly "the BARC speeder repair tool").
- The BARC speeder repair tool is now a general-purpose vehicle restoration kit which can be used to restore any disabled vehicle.
- Vehicles can no longer be restored at parking garages without a vehicle restoration kit.
- The Flash speeder may still be restored for 20,000 credits (no change).
- The vehicle restoration kit is now a stackable item.

Hmm. Never tried it with the quest reward version. I use crafted parts on mine. Tractor in top turret, mining laser for the pilot.
Though, I did have a bug the other day where an asteroid at full condition took no damage from my mining lasers, but that was a Mk.III in my B-22, so nothing to do with the Y-8, but with mining in general.
Never forget to /examine an asteriod that doesn't look like it's taking damage. At a certain point, they stop producing chunks and you just have to shoot a lot to blow it up. A new one respawns seconds later, full hitpoints and ready to give you resources.
Though, I did have a bug the other day where an asteroid at full condition took no damage from my mining lasers, but that was a Mk.III in my B-22, so nothing to do with the Y-8, but with mining in general.
Never forget to /examine an asteriod that doesn't look like it's taking damage. At a certain point, they stop producing chunks and you just have to shoot a lot to blow it up. A new one respawns seconds later, full hitpoints and ready to give you resources.

Personally, I've never really had a problem mining in the Y-8, as long as I had someone in the top turret manning the tractor beam. Works quite well that way, especially once the pair get the hang of it.

Hmm maybe I need to redeed it. I've had a toon sitting in the top turret with the quest reward tractor beam and me in the pilot seat with the quest reward mining laser and couldnt breaka single chunk off on asteroids with full condition

I've spent probably 35 hours mining in my Krayt so its not an issue of the condition.. I check the condition at the first sign of no chunks. The last time I had the Y8 out, the tractor beam was on auto with a toon in the turret and me in the pilot seat and teh asteroid in perfect untouched condition. I'll try withthe new crafted lasersthat ive been using in my krayt but I don't think I have any of the ones specific for the Y8 as they are not really available in our galaxy cuz no one mines lol.

the asterion was empty justr keppblasting at it it can take a couple minute but it'll go poof and new one repawns. this seems to happen with asteroids near the edges of the space zones

It was not empty.
unless every single asteroid in 3 systems were magically all empty only to my Y8. When i went back with my krayt they all worked fine. This is not a problem with asteroids being empty. As I have stated in previous posts. I know how to mine. I mine a lot. I blow up a lot of asteroids and wait for them to respawn regularly. The issue here is that no matter what I do with the Y8, it will not blow chunks off of any asteroid in any system with any configuration of weapons, tractor beams, players, pilots etc.
I guess i'll try redeeding it and see if some magical bug fix will make it work
