Hi all

Just wondering your opininon about the Tie-bomber. I reacently got a Tie- Bomber and is not surten on what is the best config for it. My first impression is that it is sluggish and broring to fly . can it be made agile to handel the faster ships , mine has eaven problemstailing a tier3 z-95 , also some tier 2 ships.

In my opinion, the TIE bomber is not something you should be using to shoot down A-Wings or similar fast moving craft. It's a bomber, which means you should use that 180k mass for big guns, big shields and big missiles in order to provide fire support for taking down gunboats and Nova Couriers (*shakes fist at Folding Dancer nova courier*). I used this ship for the Storm SquadronTier 4 exit mission (destroy the rebel fleet) and did plenty of damage to the gunboat and couriers. I have heard of people using these for fighting smaller fighters though, if you can manage to actually hit one, with the firepower you should be packing you'll kill most fighters in a few hits. I think that the TIE Interceptor is better suited to what you'll have to deal with, at least until you can get a TIE Advanced.

My TIE bomber config for the short time in which I used it (i'm remembering these values, so they are approximate):

Reactor: RGR 12000.

Shields: 1200 f/b, 10 regen

Armour: was just some stuff I looted, bout 600 f/b.

Engine: P/Y/R = 63/64/62 Speed about 68 i think. Still using this now on my Oppressor until i find something decent.

Two blaster guns: 1900-2400 0.6 to armour and shields.

Missiles: Mk III Concussion missile, Mk III Proton missile (ended up not really using these)

Cap: 900 storage, 38 regen.

Droid interface: 14ish RE'd with low mass.

Programs: EO3, WO3, RO3, occasional CtSS3 (had to use this a lot towards the end lol)

With this setupI got wasted on the first attempt to complete the Tier 4 exit mission. Second attempt we won, with the help of an Ace flying an Oppressor and a great crew of people flying a Decimator.

Well, it is a bomber, not a fighter. You can use it to fight though, you just need to be prepaired. First, get some shield programs from a reb (yes you can use them). Due to the chassis speed modifer you are going to have a hard time keeping up with the npcs, You'll need to run around 50% throttle for the best turn performance, but an engine with pitch yaw and roll in the 70's will make this a little higher. Basically you are going to need to get into jousting matches with these faster craft, this is where the droid programs come in. Use the program that adds to your front shields, slow down to your best turning speed and take them on head-on. With the 2 weapons slots (2 level 5 weapons hit harder than 1 level 7) plus two missile slots you should be able to do a good amount of damage to them on each pass, and your reinforced shields will keep you alive. As soon as they pass you start your turn so you are facing them when they turn around, they tend to fly by you a bit then turn. Blast them again. Keep doing this until you kill them.

In my opinion, you are much better off with an interceptor. Yes the mass of the bomber is tempting, but it does fly like a drunken cow, it is designed for attack runs on capitol ships, not mixing it up with fighters. Outfit your interceptor with the best shields you are certified for, thena good weapon and engine. Get a capacitor overload program from a freelanceer and you do not need to worrytoo much about the capacitor, an average but light one will do you fine. I'd skip the armor, any you can put on there will be so light and have so few hp that by the time you get down to it you'll be toast anyway. Droid programs are your best friend as an imp pilot. Recator overload will make up for a small light reactor, same with the capacitor. Engine overload will give you tons of speed, especially inthe interceptor.

Good luck!

i used a tie-bomber from 3/2/2/2 to ace without ever switching in between, did kessel to get from 3/3/3/3-4/4/4/4 and had little problem killing teir 5 a-wings, at first they were murder but after hours of pilot experience it got easier and easier until they became trivial and started netting tons of xp/faction, i recommend a 90-92 speed engine with engineoverload 3, a small 12-14k reactor (recommend reactor overload if u have space in ur droid command module), a 17k mass lvl 7 shield is always good, a decent recharge rate capacitator is good but if your using weapon overload 3 and perhaps cap overload it doesnt matter what you use there, grab some nice heavy duty weapons and a few lvl 3 proton launchers as they dont weigh much and help a ton, coutnermeasure launcher isnt necessary in this ship since you wont be getting hurt much at all by other missiles and it is fairly easy to stick all lvl 7 or lvl 9 gear into 180k mass if you know what your doing so you should have no problem filling it up with good gear, even 13k+ mass shields wont be hard to fit.

the gun turrets on the bomber are just as accurate as any of the other TIE-ships so once you get a hang of flying it you will do more damage than any other tie ship simply because you will have better weapons and still be just as accurate as they are, this ship isnt for everyone but if anyone takes the time out to actually master it skillwise they will be rewarded greatly by its abilities.

Thanks all for the input

I have to say i do think ill go for speed and agility, rather then power, think that is moore my style of flying.

It is impressiv what you have done with you bomber Hoko But i think that is not for me but i will keep you tips in mind for the capital ships missons

What is the max mass for a interceptor anyway,

50k according to the FAQ.

You can fit a reasonable amount of stuff in there if you buy RE'd stuff from a shipwright. TIE interceptor got me to about 4/3/3/3. Then as I needed the extra mass/firepower I got an Advanced. Now thats a sweet ship. Got me to Ace and I still have it in deed form in my inventory just to fly occasionally.
