I loaded up my TIE Aggressor and a buddy and I launched into space. The problem was that both of my weapons were firing from the rear. Shouldn't one of them been firing from the front? Also, we're both Imperial combatants on the ground but we recieved no faction points for what we killed. Any thoughts as to what we were doing wrong?

I dunno why your guns are firing backwards but the faction problem I can fix. You have to go to an Imperial station and declare Overt in Space to get faction in a ship. This means you'll be attackable by other players, however.
Simple solution here(if you're a Master, that is), is to just hit Deep Space, so you can grind faction, high level components, and credits; and if someone does happen to crash your party, no decay.

Are the guns Crafted or Looted? If Looted, what are the names of the guns, both pilot and gunner?

Certain old Loot weapons were bugged so that they did not draw properly and the firing effect would not only cause the gun to not fire, but would cause other guns to fire instead. I believe no new loot should have that problem, and any bugged loot that is RE'd in a set but not the primary RE set item should no longer be an issue. If you RE'd a set with a bugged game as the primary (dropped in the tool first so that the name, look, and firing effect are used for the finisihed product) then I believe you have a waste of an RE job.
If it is still loot and you go to get it RE'd, make sure the SW knows the bug I'm referring to and which weapon it is that has the problem.

It doesn't have to do with "old" loot. It is a problem with the graphics tables for the ship itself. There is a stickied thread on it, with full details. TIE aggressors, Krayts, and Kimogilas are the biggest offenders, there are several guns that have no instructions for how to draw in those ships. The guns work fine in other ships, they just don't display correctly, and thus don't fire correctly in that ship.
