If your looking for a challenge, try this:

Go dig out your Tie/ln (you know, the one you get at teir 2 that you probably gave away or sold?)

Equip it with the standard gear to run EO4. (L6 engine, MKIII reactor, L7 gun, L2 cap, etc etc etc... you know the drill)

Leave out the shield - armor only.

Do your overloads, run EO4, then go to deepspace.

Deep space in a tie close to canon, is a kick in the pants I was having a blast when i did this a couple weeks ago. Although an A wing with a prenerf showed up and owned me but hey.. it takes some cahonies to go to deespapce with no shields to begin with!

Try it, its fun. You might just surpise yourself.

Without a shield, that build is not so hard

It's possible to use a MKIII shield along with L6 engine and L7 cannon if you use MK I armor, MK I reactor, and ditch the boosters and chaff launcher.

Naturally everything must be RE'd, and you wouldnt be able to run EO4 then, but its doable in a 40K mass chassis.

I do essentially the same thing when I run an A-Wing, except I have moderate shields, but no armor. And no overloads.

nah, not quite the same thing. Lots of ppl strap on shields with no armor plating, not uncommon. Shields can be shunted or slowly recharged.

Armor, however, cannot When all you have between the internal systems of your ship, and that blaster bolt impact is 240ish armor, mistakes are not very forgiving

I like running shields, no armor. Mainly because I hate having to continually repair. It doesn't take but 2-3 hits with only armor to pretty much take care of you in deep space. Then you have to travel to a station and repair and head back, either that or take the death then head to a station to go overt, then head back. Either way too much work for me lol. But I do like a challenge. so if you take a ship up with just shields it gives you the same general effect, but instead of having to repair after a close call, you can simply sit back and let your shields recharge for a sec then have at it again.

True shields can regenerate and be shunted, but I don't run any overloads on any of my equipment while doing this, where you stated you do. Those together are the tradeoff.

Running without overloads, really isnt THAT big of a deal. The only difference is your a slower and don't kill as fast as you normally would. But you still have room to make mistakes; I dont really consider that a challenge because of it.

Theres a certain degree of challenge involved with out ANY room for mistakes. In a Zero shield tie, you have ZERO room for mistakes. Fighting a pack of B wings (most of which love to launch missles at you at the same time), is a bit more hairy then running around in a shielded A wing without overloads.

I see your point there, about the shield giving you room for error, but it doesn't allow much when you drop a low level shield in, just enough to take one or two hits, afterwards, without armor, everything else pretty much hits your chassis directly. Only difference in my room for error and your room for error and that mine regenerates, and yours doesn't. I may consider the engine overload, simply because the A-Wing's supposed to be extremely fast. But I think that the weapon overload would take a way from it needing to be moderate damage.
