I just hit the third mission im at 3322 and im in the corsec.

I was doing the mission where i meet up with a transport ship that has a signal jammer so i can pass safely through space then hit the end do a short patrol and launch into a massive attack.

Well i didnt notice that gunship in the wave so eh!! i got blown away bad.

Any tips on doing this mission what kinda ship to use weapons armor etc...should i go after the gunship first/last or disable reactor or weapon0-???

Any special abilities i could use im pretty new (2weeks) I dont have a flight computer and dont seem to know where to get one all i ever get is droid controlers.

Would ptrap1 help.

I just got a 63.2 63.2 63.2 72 engine so im hoping that better speed will help me some

My shield is about 1100fr 1100 r with a 9.3 recharge

my armor is 1000 fr 1450 r

My capacitor is 850 with a 39 recharge

I got a ton of weapons from 1000-3000 damage ranges

I got all ships i am capable of flying

Seems with all the parts i got to get the best defensive and offensive i would have to use my kimogila or ixyien(however its spelled) Low mass on the others keeps me from loading good weapons once my other main stuff is loaded.

does it matter what style ixyien i use (target size) i have a style 3 and it looks kinda bloated.

Will i most likely need help with this or should i be able to do this one alone.

Thanks in advance for any help.

All gunships have a blind spot to the bottom rear quarter. Shoot off gun 2 first (rear gun for imp ships). Gunships start landing shots on you around 525 meters away so if you need to get away that's the magic number you have to reach before you no longer take damage.

Ptrap1 is not worth the effort. Instead save the special command for IFF jamming just incase you get into trouble.

So im guessing my best bet would be to try to take out the rest of the escorts first then go after the gunship.

IFF jamming eh i knew i shoulda took that box over the ship box argh...

Seems maybe i should load up my fastest low drain high damage weapon

And secondary on a big damage weapon for helping take out heavy ships.

My only fear is that the fighters keep spawning my mission 2 they just kept coming and coming and i barely got out alive.

To Slysix and several other posters in other threads: Please stop giving this advice to players that ask how to take a gunship during a mission. Misison gunboats will attack the player and follow the player around. You cannot getinto orstay in the deadzone of these gunboats. Deadzone killing is only viable on random spawned gunboats and disabled mission gunboats.

To original poster: Ship profile matters in PvP, doesn't play a big role in PvE. Get the kimogila. More mass and extra gunmount to quickly kill the gunboat. Disable the reactor or engine first with strafing, then you can use the deadzone tactic Slysix mentioned. Cap to Shield shunt will help you survive longer.

Also go to a droid engineer for your computer, get the highest level your able to use. Then go get the weapon overload and engine overload chips and use them. For the gunboat try to find yourself some shield enhanced concussion missles for your Kimo. You can use the missles to take down the gunships shields and then Strafe with your overloaded weapon, then booster away with your overloaded engines. Others might argue that you don't need the missles, but I found that the components go down quicker without the shields. Also, like the man said use capaciter to shield shunt a lot, but to do that you'll need a good droid controller. Good luck

Yeah seems this ones my first real challenge.

That stupid gunship takes me down so quick i cant get away from him. I tried turning around and boosting out right before the spawn dropped to get a better angle and to help take the escorts down hah. Gunship still caught me before i could drop any of them.

Gonna try the flight computer stuff next see what i get outa that. Im thinking alot of my troubles can be fixed with this.

If nothing else everytime i get wacked i go grind XP for a bit trying to get some better parts and to have a nice pool saved up for when i actually need it. Got 500k XP banked so far.

Kinda sucks were in 2xXP week and im stuck on non XP mission. Im just wondering if i grind now how far it will let me save up before it stops me. I guess ill find out soon enough.

If nothing else ill have to break down and find some nice pilot to help me out.

Finding someone to help you may not be a bad idea. It's a great way to meet other pilots, discover new piloting techniques, etc. I learned more about being a pilot the first time I grouped than I had while soloing. I was in my Dunelizard he was in an XWing and he was flying circles around me and killing off 80% of the enemy before I even had a chance to fire off a shot. I hadn't realized the benefits of the droid commands, RE'd equipment, etc but those twenty minutes put me on the path of piloting correctness (PC). Up until that particular quest I had been able to accomplish everything without any of those things albeit slowly. Now I can't imagine what it would be like without them.

I remember that mission. I was flying a dunelizard with 1900 back/front shields, an L5 and L7 gun, decent armor, L6 engine. I managed to gank the escort after a few passes (I think I just disabled their engines to get it done quicker), and took many hit and runs on the gunboats to disable their engines. It would have been so much easier if someone was with me to help take some attention away.

yeah thats whats i was trying to do lure away the faster ships and run at them but that darned gunboat kept catching me!!heh

Think ill stick to the plan for now and try to get a ton of XP and find some more parts/flight computer. then well see.

Maybe ill try to find a good neutral pilots guild on Bria. I know ive seen some advertising hafta follow some of them up.

hehe I was flying my dunelizard on that mission and didn't realize there was a gunboat either. I got lucky and the gunboat was what I just happened to target first. There are actually a couple of tactics that work well for the gunboats with rear turrets(also the aggressors).

First thing I would do however is get your flight computer setup as it can be a very significant help. you need to find a DE that can make one for you(lvl3 I think for your level maybe lvl4).

My encounter --

I was running the mission like normal(had very similar equipment to yours) and didn't notice the gunship till I was already in combat or I would have approached it differently. Basically I started to target the gunship like I do any other ships(target engines). However, once I realized it was a gunship i quickly changed my target to the turret(uhh.. weapons1 I think it was). Once the turret is down the gunship offers very little resistance. Next disable it's engines then leave it and concentrate on who's attacking you. Just cycle through the ships disabling their engines one by one, then go back and clean up your mess afterwards. The object here is to reduce the damage your taking as quickly as possible starting with the hardest hitting ones first(the gunship).

What I would do differntly --

Had I noticed the gunship ahead of time I would use the same tactics i do against aggressors. Simply target the gunboats main weapon(rear turret) and run at it head on blasting the entire way. Keep going past the gunboat about 1km. Once your at 1km hit half throttle(better turning) and flip around for another pass. Note that the gunboat will also turn and head straight at you giving you two advantages.

1 - The first advantage is that this lines you up for a clean set of shots, that you can start long before the target highlights giving you a few extra shots.

2 - The second and most important advantage is to notice that the turret is rear mounted, meaning that while your charging it head on it can not hit you with the turret. Once you pass it you will get hit in the rear a few times(boosters come in handy here to minimize damage).

Once the gunboats turret is down you can treat it just like any other ship, disable it and move on to the next one until you can safely go back to destroy all the disabled ships(you disable instead of destroying to begin with because it's faster than destroying, the sooner you can disable or destroythe sooner you reduce the damage you take).

Flying is all about damage control, there are certain levels of damage you can withstand and others you can not. In situations like this mission where you have a large group of fighters it is very important to limit the damage you take. I will give you a hint for something I have found invaluable to me while flying. There are two buttons that I would strongly suggest you map. The first is to target whatever is under the reticle(friend or foe or asteroid etc... you get the point). You do this because there is nothing more frustrating than trying to sift through targets one by one to get the one you need, while your being shot at. The second button is to target the enemy that LAST fired on you. This will allow you to easily switch targets to those doing damage to you and to ignore those that aren't(if there was no recent target that fired on you it appears to cycle to the nearest enemy target). The key to this last one once again is to control your damage. If your in combat with multiple targets and your tracking one while getting shot from behind, it is important to switch up targets and turn around to take the one shooting you from behind, this button will allow you to make that adjustment instantly and accurately, this is particularly important in larger battles where you will need to do this often in order to survive it.

Well i got tired of grinding so i went and bought some better parts.

Grinded some more and thought wow im really killing these guys off fast.

So i said screw it ill go back and try again.

I got real lucky!!!

I was getting hit hard they jumped right on top of me outa HS and i was allready crippled shields down allmost all the way. I was gonna shield shunt and run but i thought screw it im here for the long haul. (couldnt be to much longer lol) at this point all my shields were gone and my armor was 1/4 left.

I made a suicide run at the gunboat with both my 2500dmg weapons on full blast and a parting concusion II missile. I figured if im going down im going down big. just as i was a sure goner i got the you have disabled your target message!!! Muhaha the tides turned and i disabled the rest of the escorts and relished each kill as if it was personal.

Finished up all my tier 3 missions now and from grinding i had 1mill XP banked!!

reported to my tier 4 trainer and im now a 4333

More grinding here i come.

The XP gain was capped at 1mill while on tier 3i wonder if its allways like this or if i can grind all 3mill i need now before i even try to get my boxes filled.

We shall see i guess.

And on another positive note i found a yt-1300 chassis deed YAY now i got something to look at and motivate me further.

Maybe i can hit 4444 or master before my month is up that would be a gas.
