It could be your connection, I have had this happen to me a few times and usually it is because my connection is bad. Check your network status window. If your ping is high that could be the reason you cant hit anything. If mine is above 400 (when housemates are eating all the bandwidth on my broadband) then i cant hit a thing in space lol

Or the ships you were fighting could have been part of someone else's duty mission, in which case you could target them but not harm them.
Or you could be using terrible guns.

I had a REALLY bad time of it, trying to finish my two-part master mission when my ping went through the roof. I couldn't hit a thing at dogfighting range, I had to joust and get the hits in early. Once I closed to 250m, I wasn't scoring hits. For that matter, I wasn't scoring hits on the Vette at close range once things got worse (1k ping as opposed to 500). Oh well, I'm getting a new computer soon, and if the ping issues continue I should be able to convince my ISP that it's not my computer that's the problem THIS time...

I've run into that problem, too--for me, it was my ping skyrocketing.

My firewall plays hell with space for me. I generally disable it while i'm flying.

I get the "drunken bumblebee" thing all the time but I found that if I go to another target it usually straightens itself out.

All of the above probably. I have no problems routinely fighting tier 4 and 5 these days. Every once in a while my targets become un hittable. I usualy do a little creative evasive manuvers till my target does a sort of pause, then "hiccup backwards" then I'm able to hit him again. I think its a client/server issue but it rectifies itself in a few moments. Until then I cant hit a stationary target with no engines.

Anyway, yeh sound slike a connection, hit detection type issue. If you're hitting the NPC with your blasters with the best equipment you have at tier 4, then tier 2s and 3s should be popping pretty easily.

I just spent the last hour fighting tier 2 and 3 fighters. Not doing a single thing to them. I am a tier 4, with a good ship, good weapons, the works. This has been the case for me, for a week.
I am i missing something, is a bad connection some where, does my X-wing suck, or am i that bad of a pilot now a days that i can't hit the side of a barn.
Please tell me if you are having any trouble in space.
