If you are declared Overt on the ground, does that carry over into space, or do you need to reup your status in space? Is there a minimum combat level you can go PvP/Overt in space?

Your ground status, (or template, or CL,) in any way shape or form, has no bearing in space excepting what faction you are.
To go overt in space, you have declare at one of your factions space stations. You can be CL 1, on leave, and make colonel in space if you wanted to.

On the ground there are 3 different ways to play, On Leave, Combatant (PvE overt) and Special Forces (pvp overt). In space there is only declared and undeclared.
Is there a minimum combat level you can go PvP/Overt in space? If you mean your ground Combat Level, that has no bearing on your pilot abilites whatsoever. A complete crafter with a CL of 1 can be the best pilot on your server.
If you mean your progression in the Pilot Tiers, I believe you can go overt as a Novice (though I don't recommend it)

Just remember, that this is a case of risk vs reward.
You can earn faction points at err arguably three times the rate you can on the ground. However, you ahve to be open to PvP attacks to do it.
Z key, is by default, your best friend, talk to him often.

Of course, this makes it entirely possible that you'll be blown to bits by another player...

Depends on when he plays honestly. If like around the time i do, valcyn is typically dead as a door nail, and space relativly empty.
Infact, i farmed faction in DS for 3 or 4 days straight, for an hour or so at a time before i saw anyone.
But, i play at offpeak and wierd hours.

Hehe of course!
been playing Planetside for close to 2 years and an online WW2 flightsim for a few years on and off before that, so I am completely used to and welcome getting shot up by other players. Waaaaaaay more fun and exhilarating than going up against a computer generated opponent. Although I must warn you, my ship repair kit has duct tape, so it will survive anything!
