So far I have aced three squadrons in JtL. Havoc, Crimson Phoenix, and the RSF. Each time I did the final Corvette mission, I got lucky. The first time, I happened to come upon the Corvette after another group had already disabled it and I was able to get credit for the kill. The second time, I admit to doing the dishonorable thing and disabled the Corvette to let the escort fly by so I wouldn't have to deal with them. The third time, a friendly Imperial ace flew by and dropped a bomber strike 3 on the gunboats for me before flying off. I have also helped others with their Corvette missions about three or four times, but always in a group of at least 3. I was always glad to get my aces, and generally always had fun taking down the Corvette, but at the same time I felt somewhat undeserving of my aces.

Until last night. I flew into Kessel to start my 30 kills mission for the Inquisition, and noticed the infamous two gunboats in their little death spiral at the exit point, with their fighter escort still with them. So I said what the hell, might as well try it. I managed to destroy both gunboats all on my own, finished the 30 kill mission, and took a break for a few hours to wait for the spawn. The spawn comes in, I clear out the escort fighters, disable the Corvette, wait for the gunboats to clear out, and destroy the Corvette. Then, being a conscientious pilot and not wanting to screw up the spawn for others, I took out the gunboats as well. All of this was done with no help at all and it just feels awesome that I was able to do that. Just wanted to share this with my fellow pilots.

I used a TIE Advanced, mounted with two RE'd level 7 weapons, I think the damage on them was 1600-2700, something like that. I had a RE'd level 7 shield with 1650 strength. A couple of small pieces of armor, I think they were around 300-400. Also had a RE'd post-nerf reward engine. The usual assortment of droid programs, but I use Weapon Overload 2 instead of 3 so that when they finally fix it I won't feel like I'm missing anything!

Congrats =) It feels rewarding to do this mission solo doesnt it? Im impressed that you managed to take out the gunboats in their 'death spiral' lol. I cringe and fly the other way when I see gunboats in this holding pattern, nice work!

Nice work, and congrats!!! I'll admit you're a better pilot than I am. But I'm getting there.

It actually turned out to be much easier than I feared. I came to a full stop and just inched forward until the closest point to me of their spiral was about 540-550 meters away, and just fired away whenever they came near. An occasional blaster bolt came my way, but because I was at the very edge of their engagmement range, they could only fire two, maybe three shots before going out of range. It took several minutes but it worked.

Heh, you may find, that rebel gunboats in general, are nothing more than credits/FP with wings. They're really really easy. (when they're not doing that spiral, get UNDER and BEHIND them, and they cant touch you, even at say 200- meters.) Imperial gunboats on the otherhand, are way harder to take out if my memory serves me correctly.

Heh, when I did my imp ace mission, I had to hurry to be able to fire at the bridge of the vette, it was over so quickly with two aces attacking it.

I did not put up the ace title until I had 5 pvp kills though .

u can take GBs in the death spiral relatively easy... just stay more than 550m away, before u get the green targeting aid, and shoot away.. even tho it doesnt look like u r within range u will hit it... just make sure u r 550m away at its closest point not at its furthest

Yeah the only gunboats that I really fear are the ones that actually engage you. I still can't really handle them at all. But even the Imperial ones, when they move "on rails" like the escorts, are easy if you stay out of their range. And I used to fear the ones in the "death spiral" too, but not anymore heheh.
