Thread: Junior Pilot question about the value of engine speed.

I'm currently a 3333 SA Pilot (pure PvE)flying a nice little Dunelizard (about to switch to a B22 at 4333). My Dunelizardengine gives me a PRY in the mid Sixties and a top speed of about 79 with a mass of about 8.5k. I have acquired an engine with PRY that is a bit lower, 15k mass, but a top speed of 102.

My question is, whether or not it isworth the mass (and say giving up armor to fit it) for the speed? At 102 plus basic booster will I see a real difference in my ability to zip in and out of gun range, avoid missiles, or just generally make myself harder for the AI to hit?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

If you're only doing PvE, go with the speed. PYR only really matters in PvP.

Ha! And people acted like my thread on speed and YPR was all common knowledge...okay, enough bitterness now.

Against the AI speed is your friend, especially against turrets. They seem to have a hard time tracking fast ships - in fact, small chassis like the Actis will almost never be hit if flown correctly.

Indeed, in my experience, speed is more beneficialagainst the AI. 63 on your P/Y are *good enough* for PvE purposes, although somewhere between 65-70 would be better.

Yep, I agree. Low 60's in a B-22 will more then be adiquate for your pve needs, and the top speed should put you in the 1200's. The 15k mass is just fine as well. I used to run with a 13k engine in my JSF which is the same as the B-22 bar a few pixels. You should be able to kit it out with a decent cap, shields, missiles, and chaff if you look hard enough.

When I hit 4333 I'll un-deed the B22 and drop in the 102 engine! Thanks for the advise.
