so how exactly does this experience multiplier bonus work after youve mastered a pilot profession.
i've read a few threads about it, but get lost half way through

From what I read, for every pilot profession you master, the multiplier on the xp increases. So, if you master 1 profession, you now get 2X xp, 2 profs, 3X....I think that is how it works.

It is. Master one rebel squadron, you get 1x bonus(total is 2x, when including the base xp)for the next one. Master an Imp one then, and you get a 2x bonus after that. Master a freelance one at that point, you get the full 3x bonus.
So if you do one of each(Reb, Imp, Freelance), you get a total of 4x xp a kill(base + 3x bonus).
That does NOT factor into Prestige Points, only starship combat xp.

That is the max bonus though, you won't get any more bonus after mastering one of thethree squads in each of the three factions.
