Thread: Do pilot profession choices come with faction adjustments?

I've been hanging out at Nym's place for awhile trying to get my Western song quest done.

Imagine my surprise yesterday when the guards start shooting me. After multiple incaps and two trips to the cloner I begin to realize that this isn't bug or a misunderstanding with one group of Nym's pirates. I look at my faction list: Nym = -5000.

Now, just a few days earlier I'd been walking freely around the Stronghold and getting missions from Nym's buddies. I haven't shot at any Nym's NPC's that I'm aware of, certainly not -5000 points worth of them.

The only change I can point to is that I bought JTL recently (part of Rage) and I signed up with CorSec as a free-lancer. I already had maxed out CorSec faction so it seemed like a fine thing to do.

Unfortunately, it seems that becoming a policeman has alienated me from Nym and one or two other groups. Does this seem accurate? Signing up with a law enforcement group as a free-lance pilot causes your faction with some (but not all, strangely) pirates to bottom out? It's weird because Binayre Pirates, for instance is still in the -3k area where it's always been.

If it's not a bug and this is my own fault for siding with CorSec, what can I do to get my Nym's faction back up? Any ideas?

As a Master CorSec Pilot I can say I have hadno issues with Nym faction. Being a musician I have done nothing to them and they have done nothing to me and that did not change at all with JTL.

With the exception of declaring, and missions, and ONLY Rebel and Imp: NOTHING in space has any effect on the ground factions.

This suggests a possibility. The Nym NPC's at the stronghold starport use area attacks frequently, agroing everyone there. It's possible there was an unnoticed counterattack, or being in a group with someone killing them, or even just having them die after shooting in your general area, that would result in you would losingfaction points with them.

I couldn't be sure, but that sounds like it might be it(only way I've EVER lost Nym faction outside of BH missions).

That's probably it. I've been hanging out at the starport playing music because I needed thirty people to listen to me for the Theater Manager quest. I must have somehow gotten "faction splash". What a bother!

Thanks for the info.

Hey, back in the old days the only way anyone knew how to get Nym faction back was by by killing Hutt Expeditionary Forces...and since the Jabba's Palace quests no longer give out their 300 points of Hutt faction, there's NO way to get THAT back(let alone -5000 of it, lol).

Talk about an old bug/issue that should be dealt with someday.

Considering that SOE had an easy to follow faction system (albiet annoying) in place with EQ, it amazes me how stupid SWG's faction system is designed.

I wouldn't think that joining CorSec would have done it alone; my first ace was CorSec, and I did the Nym's themepark afterwards. It wouldn't surprise me if it had some effect; I see to recall that some CorSec missions involved whacking some of Nym's ships, but still, -5000 is a lot of points to work down to.

Regaining the points will be tricky, but not impossible. Mainly, you can get them by killing Nym's enemies. A document I've found very helpful for that kind of info is here: Click Me!

Hope this helps a little!

then again, killing about 10 Nym NPC (Gurks included) will get about -5K, just go kill some corsairs.
