Ok, in the above stickie about training and such it says that when you reach teir 4 its XP and missions. Well, I was able to train with just xp and was wondering if I can do the opposite and run the missions instead of grinding 1 mil xp. This is a serious pain in the arse, and wrist. I ground out 1 mil in 2 days which was fun
and if I where logging in tonight I'd do it and find out but instead I'll ask this question and hope for a responce that says XP OR missions.

nope, both.
i usually train, take the mission, then do a duty.
for rebel pilots, the kill duty on rori reb outpost is great, long lasting. and for imp pilots the kill duty at the emperors retreat seems to be the longest and most beneficial.

yep im afraid so. Theres no way around it. you get a mission then you are allowed to train if you have the xp.

Yeah, I would just run duties for xp. They give lots of cash/parts, which are important for newer pilots.

Best place to grind space exp and get parts is in Kessel, if you can handle tier 5's.

The "Kessel is great for grinding" notion has always confused me. I think destroy duties give far quicker xp, the ships go down a lot quicker and spawn as soon as you finish the wave.In Kessel there are very large empty spots with no ships, so it takes awhile to find ships to kill. Sometimes you can hit the target nearest enemy button and there happens to be no enemies at all within a 5000 m radius in Kessel.

I went to Kessel in a Longprobe at 2/1/1/1 tonight ... it wasn't my best idea, I tried to take a gunboat and took a LONG time getting the shield down by half, then ended up getting jumped by an Oppressor. I'm now 2/2/2/2, though, and Kessel is easy enough (though I'm NOT doing the Vette without better equipment at least).

I usually go to Kessel for xp. It's true that it can take time to find ships to take down, but usually if you have a slow engine. mine being 102.2 speed I'm able to zoom from one side to the other and find ships. In fact yesterday I did a little more then 1 mil xp in around 2-3 hours. I got lucky though and found 3 tier 5 gunboats near each other then found a corvette (and it's escorts) shortly after. Also as I'm an imperial pilot (4-4-4-3)in whichIavoided all A-wings and went for everything else. Only reason I did that is because as they are faster they take longer to kill plus they give lower xp compared to everything else so a double negative for me anyways.

for grinding I hit Dathomir... lots of tier 4's so I stop and go afk if I need to without worrying about a duty mission. The xp isn't as fast a kessel but the treat level is much less, and the loot is usually right in the level range that need.

I agree, Kessel is a lousy place to get XP. Half the times I have went there I could notfind anything to kill. Tier 4 destroy duty missions are much, much faster. My favorite is the destroy duty mission from the tier 4 rebel trainer in Nym's hotel. This is a black sunduty mission as well, so you have a chance at the black sun ace helmet. One million XP goes by very fast when doing destroy duty missions.

Great time to grind faction xp. whats what I did for my tier 4 missions. Used the time to grind faction xp in Kessel. Kill 2 birds with one stone and pratice gun boats. easy after a while.

I guess my question is do you have to do the missions or can you just do it via xp?
