Thread: Just made Imperial Ace, My thoughts on the Journey

First I must say that overall the expansion is a great addition to the game. It's not without it's problems but I hope the feedback I have will have
a positive affect on this game from the imperial side at least.

The Start - The ground game missions for imperials seem to have no positive affect for imperial pilots. I had spent time hoping
that I'd have a leg up compared to people coming in with no imperial exp at all. I think there should be some bonus if you have an
imperial rank. Something small and cosmetic, mabye just a set of boots and gloves to go with the flight suit or a special backpack or something.

Tier 1 - Tier 1 was pretty easy and fun to progress through. Missions were short and grinding was relatively short. Didn't see any reason to start players out with a starter ship that can't be upgraded. The updates seem to have fixed this as new pilots get a upgradeable ship. So kudos on fixing that. I think getting the tier 1 astromech training should come with a special ver 1 flight computer that can only hold one program. This would give players a way to get familiarized with this earlier in their missions.

Tier 2 - Grinding was more noticeable with single missions after completeing each stage. Spent about an hour grinding after each mission to complete each skill, not bad but I felt the bomber-strike 1 should have been in this skill set. Between when you get Eweapons and when you get tier 3 training, there is a lot of combat that happens and I think bomber-strike 1 would have been much more useful here than at tier 3. It would make sense that flying a Tie/In you can call in reinforcements of Tie/in's & a tie Bomber.

Tier 3 - Finally got into decent ship, the Tie Interceptor. Unfortunately something just isn't right about that ship. It needs to have two weapon hard points and more mass. I think it should really be more like the TIE ADV in mass. 49k mass goes real fast when setting that ship up and u still have to skimp on armor. Shields, oddly enough, are required even for imperials. The Imperial training here finally gave you a bomberstrike and a nebula blast. The blast is in need of some love because it's almost useless. The bomberstrike is a fantastic ability but as I mentioned early I think this one should come at tier 2 and Bomberstrike 2 should be tier 3. Bomberstrike 2 brings in Interceptors and tie bombers and at tier 3 you will be flying a tie Int. I refused to fly the Tie Bomber here as I felt that having 200k mass just wasn't right and would be fixed eventually. I've come to realize that most ships in other other factions all have generous mass even at tier 2 and the imperials are the ones getting penalized for some reason.

Tier 3 Missions - Ugh. Fun was something that stopped at tier 2 and I really think this needs to be dealt with. You can't go into deepspace until you get 30k prestige, you can't get pretige until you make ace... At Tier 3 I'd enough of PvE and wanted to go after PvP for a bit. Was a bit upset to find out that I was stuck doing these missions until I got ace under my belt. Tier 3 missions are horribly long and boring. Escorting a ship from wave after wave of the same fighters isn't fun or interesting and imo it really hurt the game. I liked having missions to do vs grinding but there should be a better middle ground. Each mission took well over an hour and often times ended up in defeat as you ran into a larger ship with turrets that just opened you up like a tin can. IMO you should be able to play in kessel and in deep space once you have completed all of the tier 2 missions and getting all your tier 3 /4 skills should be optional. (of course a pvp'r would want to at least get the tier 3 pilot cert so he could use the tie interceptor.

Tier 4 - This was more fun that tier 3 but felt just like tier 2 with a lot more grinding. As mentioned before, tier 4 imperial training should include bomber strike 3. Tie adv is a bit dissapointing. With only 65k you can't mount 2 decent weapons and the parted needed to make them work. Tier 4 weapons components should be include level 9 components as well. Doesn't make a lot of sense that you get lvl 9 component use after making ace... What good is it then? Level 4 astromech programs dont seem very useful as of yet. They disable most parts of your ship upon using them so I'm stuck using tier 3 weapon and engine overload. Hope this is a glitch that will be fixed.

Imperial ace - It was very gratifying to finally complete this career track but I didn't see why lvl 9 component use and bomberstrike 3 didn't come sooner...when I needed them. Looking forward to flying the decimator and just bought an oppressor. And now I guess I can go pvp.

That is my .02. Hope it helps.

The reason you don't get level 9 components until Ace is because for some types of components there are no level 10s. 9 is the highest there is. Agree with you about the Tier 3 missions though... I'd rather have needles stuck in my eyes than fly Tier 3 Mission 1 again.

Yes, kessel is definitely the only place to grind for xp. Go after anything but a-wings. Kill any other type of ship first because the a-wings give the least xp and are the hardest to kill. (go figure) Plus if you want to take out a Rebel Gunship just get in behind it at 530-540 meters then match speed, target a subsystem, usually engines are best, activate e weapons and take him out. Once you see his engines start dropping keep pressing M to match his lowered speed so you don't get in range of his guns.

Once you are ready for the corvette mission make sure you use bomberstrike 2 almost exclusively against it. It will do most of the work for you, if you get a few ppl to help who also use bomberstrike you can fly in and blast away while the turrets are busy.

What an intresting ablity. I guess that makes up for the lack of other stuff like IFF? *shrug*

Yeah, but it can't do much to make up for E-shields and IFF...
