Thread: weapon projectile SPEED
(If I've missed an existing one, please link).
It's clear that weapon beams, bolts, blasts, etc. don't all travel at the same speed. My question is, what determines a weapon's projectile speed?
Is is related to refire rate? (what most people mean when they say weapon speed)
Is it related to weapon level?
Is it related to projectile type? (beam, bolt, ball, etc.)
Is it related to weapon type? (blaster, disruptor, cannon)
Obviously pilots want the fastest projectile possible. If some way to tell can be found, this would help RE, as well as weapon valuation.
It seems like an important issue. On the Pilot side for example, what happens to your lead indicator when you mount weapons with different projectile speeds?
May the wisdom of the masters illuminate our search for knowledge.
Please contribute if you have data on this issue.
Does anyone deliberately use diff weapon projectile speeds to get a "spread"?
(or just use the fastest)?
You do compare projectile speeds, right?
(or does it not really matter to you)?
Thanks.

I don't believe there exists a stat for this attribute of the weapon. Thus, I would assume that if you're observing a difference in speed, it would be tied to the weapon type. My reasoning is simple: missiles travel at different speeds, andthese speeds cannot be changed by a SW, but the speed is determined by the type of missile.

but then i zoomed all the way out in third person and moved the camera a bit to the side to get a nice angle on it and fired agian, and it was obvious the two shots were right on top of each other the whole way.
(Just to be clear, this discussion is not about missles. Energy weapons only.)

Sorry guys, but I know for a fact my two weapons do NOT have the same speed projectiles. I don't know how this is not clear to others, but I have seen it on a friend's ship as well. They are set up to fire simul., but the yellow lighting bolt travels faster and impacts static targets before my green beam/bolt.

Wow - I want your guns... everybody else I've ever seen shoot (and with all the gun switching I've done) you're the first to see it differently.
The "trailer" graphics have you confused I think.
There are 3 sets of graphics for each type of shot.
- the shot itself, or the "flash"
- the "effect" -- laser, blue ball, et cetera
- the "decoration" -- long laser trail, fuzzy blue trailer, ionstorm, et cetera
The shot appears to be faster but is, in fact, not. All projectiles (guns) travel at the same speed. It is an illusion caused by the trailers.
I can't even imagine the devs putting the amount of work in that it would take to set up different speeds for different projectiles, with all that would entail for installing different speed guns and making the lead indicator work. It doesn't work right as it is. Imagine using different speed guns...?

The difference then in in the "refire rate" on the weapons and this IS an attribute that SW can experiment on. This is not a difference in the type of guns, rather the refire rate of that guns.

Yes, but you have to admit that this is your opinion. Do you have evidence that would turn this opinion into fact, from someone's else perspective.
