You're going to have to be more specifit in your complaint.

Which Squadron are you in? Every squadron has differnt missions.

the gunboat can be a pain, there were about 6 of us helping on one of our friends... What we did was we had a staging area, took out the escorts first, we went in waves of 2, we all attacked the same spot (kinda on the side of it, more towards the front) and regrouped at the staging area, rinse and repeat. If you try to hit it, circle around and hit it again, your gonna get swatted like a fly. And remember to take out the guns...

EDIT:

Oh, I was a y-wing, another was a longprobe, and we had a couple of x-wings and a couple of a-wings.

what gunboat are you guys refering to....there isn't a gunboat in the tier 4 third mission that I recall.....I just helped someone with that mission last tuesday and I just can't remember a gunboat ever being in the picture.....what squadron is this mission for? is it possible there are different tier 4 missions for each squadron? maybe you guys are talking about a lambda shuttle....kinda looks like a bunboat but doesn't have as many turrets....has Only 2 I believe....anyway I need my memrory refreshed before I can give any advice.

Ok, if you started in tyrena then you are inhavoc squadron and it's possible that you have a different mission than vortex squadron which I am in.....however, the best advice I can give for gunboats is to take out the guns first, ignore the fighters and everyone just focus on the gunboat.....also, if you take out turrets 4, 5, and 6 on the gunboat, it cannot hit you as long as you stay behind it....When you make an attack run on the gunships, remember that their turret range is far longer than your weapon range....so just because you get 700m away, they can possibly still hit you.....I find that anything further than 1000m is safe from any weapon.....it's definitely 1000m range on the vette's turrets and I think the tie aggressor has a long turret range also.

Just remember that any ship with a turret are your biggest concerns...take out "ALL" ships with turrets first before you even think about engaging any fighters or your toast.

Also, the most important thing when you take on gunboats and any ships with powerful turrets like gunboats, vette, tie agressor is to make sure you have the best shields.....preferrably ones with at least 2500 shield strength and a minimum of 13 regen rate......then make sure you have and use all the shield commands....any droid commands from freelancer and imperials are a bonus.....engine overload, weapon overlaod, capacitor overload, reactor overload are all good bonus programs to have.....especially if you are lacking in one of those area's......

There's also a little trick that works on some missions but not others....you can try it if you want......it's where you get close enough to catch arggo from the fighters....then fly about 500 - 1000 meters away and they will give chase (you probably will take some damage in the rear so reinforcing your rear shield might be needed)....then when you are far enough away from the gunboat or ships with turrets, take out all the fighters...then everyone focus on the gunboat....make your attack run with all your shield power in the front and keep your emergency shield command handy....and depending on how fast you can take out the targets turrets, you might need capacitor to sheild shunt 3 or 4 (whichever one you can use).

That's about the only things I can recommend when taking on a gunboat...other than 550 range trick (which might be an exploit..but I"m not sure)....but if there are fighters escorting the gunboat, the 550 range trick won't work anyway because the fighters will be on you like flies on s**t.

also remember that struggling to complete a missions is a good thing.....sure it may frustrate you...but that's how it's supposed to be.....it has to be challenging....believe me, once you do it once, the next time is a piece of cake.....just try and remember how many times you fell off your bike when you were learning how to ride it.....scrapes and bruises everywhere....now you can ride it with your eyes closed I'd bet.......The missions is easily soloable....once you figure out the a.i. patterns.....heck, I died at least 15 times trying my very last tier 4 mission before I went and got an ace pilot to help me...now when I go help others with there tier 4 missions....I can solo them while they watch....and that's using my same ole longprobe....just keep at it, you'll get it eventually....just make sure you take some people with you who know what they are doing.

Your not taking enough firepower. Listen, be sure you note the strategies I and others have posted. You will need a combination of firepower from longprobes and b-wings, and speed from your x-wing and a-wings. (comparitive to neutral faction) Do it in waves, an a or x-wing flys in at an angle arc, enough to draw it's fire, however not getting close enough to be bug splat in one or two hits, while a bomber craft goes in around 4-700m behind the attack craft. The goal is to even out the damage and blaster fire taken by the gunboat among the members, instead of just two or three people going in and getting blasted at the same time.

And please don't compare this to the xwing games... Don't forget that there are hidden modifiers in space, it is similar to the ground game in several ways. It is not 100% "twitch" as other flight action games.

I'm stuck on this myself, go this far solo without any real problem, got my X wing beautifully balanced and happy as larry, i can clear the fighters without any real headaches, but i fail mission before i do any significant damage to the gunboat

I'll be trying a decent sized group if i can get one together.

Oh before i forget, if you let the gunboat destroy you before you fail, jump out to get a full repair, and jump back in and goto the new wp, you get a second chance, this time you have to protect the b wing escape, but again this is tough, up against aggressors, and the spawns are timed, so solo you can't clear bedore second wave. But a decent anti' fighter group should do well. this is my plan b

I did this mission with 6 other pilots, 2 neutrals flying Rhykzerx, and 5 of us in X wings. We had 2 Xwings draw off the fighters while the remaing3 X wings drew the gunboat fire and the Rhyk's pummeled it in one pass. After the Gunboat is gone, the mission is a cake walk. I know its hard to find a group somtimes, but Teir 4 is not meant to be solo-able.if you are on Scylla, I will be glad to come fly in my B wing or X wing with you, and I can easily get a few more masters from my guild to help,

When I did this mission I failed the gunboat but I got a second mission where I just had to go to a location and stay there until the B-Wing squadron that was supposed to be attacking was safe, and I completed it that way. Did they change it?
