Thread: Anyone use the playstation 2 controller w/ USB adapter for JTL?

There were two models we ended up with mostly the venom models, I think.

Do a google for ps2 cotroller to pc adaptor and you'll find quite a few more.

actually, the only thing that the mouse/keyboard has an advantage over joysticks/flight sticks is the precision of aiming and more buttons to map. speed wise, joysticks/flight sticks are much better simply because everything is less than a split second away from being pressed without having to look at any keys or use two hands to do ctrl-(whatever) combinations...ever try ctrl - F9 with one hand....sucks don't it. What about when you need to hit the L key or the colon key....how about the apostrophe key.......and that is not just for JTL but all pc games that allow joysticks and flightsticks.
With my ps2 controller, I know the buttons like the back of my hand and "NEVER" have to look at it to make sure I"m hitting the right button (no accidental key presses here). Also, I can do as many key presses and combinations as fast as my hands allow me too......most keyboards will only allow 3 or 4 key presses at once before you get that beeping noise.....so that's another disadvantage.
Anyway, I'm all for my ps2 controller....mouse and keyboard are cool too.....but I've been playing with controllers since I was an infant so it's natural....after 20+ years of playing with controllers and flight sticks, you become as adept aiming with them as you do with the mouse.....also, you don't have to worry about sore wrist and fingers, I know my fingers get tired after 30 minutes of flying with mouse and keyboard...with controllerthe only hurting you'll get is hurting thumbs if your the kind of person who's intense when playing games and mash the buttons hard....LOL.
As far as where to get them, they are not sold in gaming stores to my knowledge....if they are, they are very rare.....you'll have better luck finding them on the internet.....doing a ps2 to usb search will yeild lots of sites where you can purchase an adaptor for less than 15 bucks. The one I have is just plug and play, no installation required and bought it on the net about 2 - 3 years ago. I forgot the price, but it was cheap, even the S&H was cheap also because the weight of it is very very light.
It will take some getting use to for JTL though...and if your the kind of person that likes to use lots of macro's and mapped keys then you'll be at a disadvantage becuase the best the ps2 controller can do is 32 - 48 key combinations (that's if you use keymapping software, you'll have to make a couple of buttons into shift keys)
It all boils down to what feels the most comfortable to you....everyone is different and have different hand to eye coordination....so I can't truely say one is better than the other for everyone....it depends on your background with gaming...if you've always played pc games and never touched consoles....the keyboard and mouse are probably best for you.....vice versa.
