I recently master pilot after many many months of being 4/3/3/3 and decided it is about time I got some decent loot together and REed it. My first project is my lvl 8 engine Nym was kind enough to donate. It has a 101.8 top spd which I think will be plenty but I wanted to know if anyone knew a spot that was any better then the rest of space to loot lvl 8 engines and what is a good ypr and mass to shoot for. I would hate to waste it on a bad RE

Secondly for my lvl 8 reward shield I'm pretty all it needs is a mass shaving and was wondering again what was a good mass to shoot for and again where is a good spot to loot these

Finnally on weapons what are the better levels in terms of damage to mass ratio. My guess is lvl 8 for more damage and lvl 6 for light weight (except for my reward boltdriver) and like the rest of the parts what are respectable what should I be aiming for in terms of damage, mass, and effectivnesses. Also, as usually where to loot them.

Last question is in terms of raw damage when mass is no object (for my yt-1300) are level 10s really the best and if so what is good damage for them and what is the lightest I will likely see them (in case I try to squeeze some else where).

I understand that those were quite a few questions and I thank you in advance for any help you can provide and, If it was in the stickies I applogize and ask that you wait while I go shoot my self.

Based on the way the drop code works, the best way to loot L8 stuff is from tier4 ships, simply based on the statisticaly breakdowns. In theory, tier5 are skewed to higher level drops more than tier, but the drop frequency overall is lower, so when you're talking about a sheer number crunching loot run, tier4 ships are the way to go (personal preference are Duties simply for the steady flow and added benefits- but being Imperial you get stuck with junk Duties, seel below). There are no known correlations between NPC type and component type (e.g. XXX drops engines, YYY drops guns)

now to address your parts issues:

L8 Engines- PYR 71 is good 73+ is great, approaching 75 is wow (pre RE).If you can get an L8 part down to 24kmass (post RE) you're doing just fine, but im sure there's better out there.

Guns- L6 are probably the most mass effective overall in the game. L7can befaster, and wont suffer lower vs ratings (if you're patient). General maximums are 2500 for L6, 3k for L7, and 3800 (using a reward) on L8. for L10 guns, 4600+ dmg, and approaching 45k mass (post RE) are what I would consider getting good. Again, im sure the exceptionally patient can do better.

Lastly, I noticed late that you mentioned a Bolt Driver and I can infer you're Imperial. Two of my main reasons for taking Duties, faction or Black Sun loot potential, are not available to you as an Imperial, so whether you do still take duties for the added cash and guaranteed enemy flow is up to you.

Given a small sampling on my 'acceptable' RE's on reward 8's, reward 7's and good loot 6's, these were what I found:

For raw damage per second, A reward 8 can't be beat. And like you'd expect, a lvl 7 will beat a level 6.
My numbers here for average damage per second are based on the averaged damages vsA vsS averaged together. Even considering the faster lvl 7's refire rate, the max damage of the 8 is just too high to be offset by the faster 7. (plus considering the 13.4 energy per shot of the post re gun, the damage per cap energy is through the roof)

Damage per second per mass becomes a much more telling statistic. After a good RE, the level 6's are about 1/3 more effecient in this category than the 7's and are 2x as efficient as the lvl 8's. (For the record, my calcs said the Mass per damage per second was about 4.5 for the 8's, 3 for the 7's and 2.25 for the 6's)

Oh, and FWIW, I have a harder time finding lvl 7's with good VS numbers than I do level 6's.

Nym's starmap quest provides the highest speed level 8 engine around. The reward level 7 shield is second only to the level 8 reward shield. Still working on the low mass engine, but I REd one for a friend that had a low mass of 20k. Best I've found is 25k. As for the shield, got the mass down to 17k and the front/back is 2000+. Recharge of 14.

Great replies! Guess I'll just add that if you're very lucky and very patient, your lvl 8 reward shield can get an re'ed regen of over 18.

It's my personal thought that if you're waiting on a good regen shield for an L8, and you've waited over two weeks of "WTBing" on the trade forums, looting, and bazaar hopping, that it's NOT THAT IMPORTANT.

Regen doesn't really matter in the clutch anymore thanks in LARGE part to Cap to Shield Shunt IV. You can regen a 25xx shield faster with CTTS4 than you can with an 18.x regen shield. Even a POS cap regens faster than any shield out there.

The only quality regen has nowadays, IMO - is "looky looky" value.

While it's true that shield regen isn't as important as it used to be, there may come a day when all droid programs get looked over, and a balance pass is applied. Or new combat oriented programs may be added, and there may be something else you want to cycle through your DI during a fight, and high regen will pay off then. I have used the same justification to just get an RE done, but that doesn't mean waiting is less of a good idea.
