Thread: Why does SOE love grinding so much?

I don't have the time, nor the patience to sit down and grind 4 million (2.5 million now) experience to get master pilot. I would've prefered hard, group-REQUIRED missions for tier 4 that are long like the tier 3 missions, because it would've been atleast fun.

On another note, if you're grouped and you shoot down a ship, does everyone get the exp?

you have to do some damage to the target to get the exp... but everyone gets 100% of the experience given by the target once its space debris.

I believe it is 5% damage. It seems shield damage is a bit less, its like 10-15% shield damage and you get credit

It takes no longer than grinding a tier 4 box for any groundprofession, and is much more fun. Yes, you get the same amount of xp for a ship (no matter who destroys it). Loot rights go to the person who does the most damage.

well, something i noticed has made me wonder that even more. how come the firesprays and especially ties i face in tier 4 missions are taking an absurd amount of damage but hardly seem to give more xp? the firesprays in tier 3 would blow up after a good volley and you could take out at least 1 in the first pass (and usually 2 or 3 tie fighters). but now i face tie fighters that require me to empty my whole capacitor into their heck before they blow up and dont give that much additional xp that its worth it. ties with shields are bad enough but now they also get a ton of armour? ties are supposed to be weak but hard to hit, not hard to hit AND hard to damage. and why on earth am i facing ridiculously tough ties on tier 4? if they want me to fight tougher ships that include tougher ships for christs sake. player ships are one thing and if balancing requires to do away with continuity and consistency i can live with it, but at least npc ships could remain remotely realistic.

so ultimately i now need 5times more xp compared to tier 3, face a lot of annoying and hard to hit ties, need 5-10 times as long til the finally blow up AND get something that feels like 1.3times the xp. so 35/1.3 = 27times longer than the tier before. where tier 3 would be 1-2 days its now 1-2 months? seems im much better off ignoring the missions offered by my tier 4 trainer and just do station missions where enemies die fast and give almost the same xp (and definitely a ton more in the same time).

Because SOEs method to increasing difficulty for anything is to add zeros to the end of the stats.

Because if they made everything more mission/quest like similar to the Hero of Tatoonie then there would be more content...and we can't have that.

You'd think that the same company that is affiliated to Everquest would take some points from it. Yeah the epic quests were tough for some but it added ALOT of content when you actually understood exactly what each mini-quest was. Even when the rewards was outclassed by other loot, the Epic rewards was still a status symbol. Many tried to get theirs even after they had better stuff.

More content, more multi-missions, but less grind. The JTL missions were a step in the right direction until they made them so repetitive. At least there's some more content thanks to them.

Why so much grinding?

It's easy "content" for them. Go out and do the same thing, over and over and over. It also requires time, which means that the average player will not achive "endgame" results quickly, thus keeping the customer paying at least until they can get to the point they want.

I have to say one thing.. JTL grinding is FUN!! Who does not like to get out the joystick, sit down, and beat the snot out of the oposing factions fighters? Nothin beats having shields down, and engine as 50% dmg, and you got to get away!! It is fun.

Every MMORP has a Grind love it or leave it... better seing an xwing blown to bits or a tie fighter go up in smoke than the same goblin toon over and over again... Or the noise those deer made in ultima still makes my ears close...

yep, but thats exactly why i rather hang around at yavin and blow up ni'whatever clan rebel ships for 1.3k that arent perversely fast AND take a ton of damage than spending a frustrating eternity with tier 4 missions trying to shoot down a single tie advanced thats turning and flying so fast youre glad to get off 3-4 shots before its gone again for 3.9k. spending minutes on a single tie advanced or having to pump a full 1.3k capacitor into a tie _fighter_ before it blows up (with 2.3k and .6 .6 blasters)... if i can get my xp two times (or more) faster with random tier 3 spawns AND have a lot more fun then obviously tier 4 missions are somewhat screwed up (i love escorts where you just shot down 2 of 4 ships and the next wave already arrives).

and the easy content. i guess if tier 2 and 4 are the same 4 missions over and over and over and over again with maybe 4 special missions thrown in then somebody got away a bit easily.

really? I have heard of multiple MMO's that are working towards eliminating any form of grind, one being autoassault, I dont know what they plan to do to eliminate it, but it seems its gonna be a very creative solution.

The other is Twilight War:After The fall, they are going for a revolutionary skill system, that will hopefully eliminate any need for mastering professions at all, but instead going towards different fields of skills to specialize in any field you want.

you might try helping others do their missions.... I finished tier 4 in three days helping pilots do tier three mission for the two other factional allies+ our privateer ally. (so 3 factional + 2 privateer groups you can do missions with = lots of xp)
