Thread: Rebel Vortex missions Good or no?
The trainers for vortex squadron are spread on 4 planets....
- starting trainer (V3-FX in a small building next to the bridge right in front of the starport, Moenia, Naboo )
- tier 2 trainer (abandoned rebel base, dantooine on the main floor)
- tier 3 trainer (abandoned rebel base, dantooine right next to the tier 2 trainer)
- tier 4 trainer (in the back room of the theatre in dearic on talus)
- master trainer (Admiral Willham Burke, wp: 3080, 5203 in the hotel atDoaba Gurefel, Corellia)
all of the trainers are listed in the planet map under ctrl-v, listed under trainers....
You will run most of your missions from the abandoned rebel base on dantooine....probably about 15 or more missions from there. So you will want to do the missions from the nuetral space station in dantooine system. He will give you the option to land at a special place on the planet (meaning the rebel base). You will want to complete these missions because it will save you time and you can land and launch from the rebel base instead of riding out there from MO or shuttling to the nearest player city. You get the option to take these space station missions at tier 2....but at that level, you might not have the components to complete the missions solo...so get help if you don't. You will have to complete 4 missions to unlock landing at the base.
The first mission is in two parts...
- disable and rescue a frieghter that imperials have taken. (1st mission)
- escort that freighter back to thespace station (2nd mission)
Now you can fail the above 2 missions and still can unlock landing at the base....if you fail the first 2 missions, you'll just get a message to continue on to the 3rd mission.....the biggest problem with the first 2 missions is that the waypoint to the mission is right next to a random spawn of tier 3 tie fighters.....most of the time they arggo you making your job difficult..
the3rd mission is to disable and capture an imperial inquister aboard a lambda shuttle....If I remember, it's escorted by 4 tier 3 tie fighters...but the turrets on the lambda shuttle is your worst enemy.
The 4th mission is to protect about 6 freighters carrying supplies for the space station....this is the hardest one because there will be about 8 - 10 tie fighters on you.....at tier 2, this is a difficult challenge but can be solo'd with the right equipment.....complete this and landing at the rebel base is unlocked.
Hopefully you can unlock early in tier 2...I wasn't able to unlock until I was 2-3-2-2 where I could get level 4 - 5 shields.
As far as the vortex missions go, I won't go into detail for all of them...but the main thing is that you will always be outnumbered and fighting imperial ships that are always 1 or 2 tiers above you....so they are faster and hard to keep up with if you don't have good engines with great PYR and speed. Also, try and break up any formations they are flying in...if you see 3 tie's flying in formation, break each formation up that you see like this...it will take some pressure off of you because when they make their attack run on you, there won't be 3 of them shooting at you at once...each one will make their own individual attack run once they are broken up...it's easier to survive 1 gun firing at you instead of 3.
You should have it fairly easy up until tier 4. The tier 4 missions are hard and most people need help with them....but if you can find a way to loot or RE some shields with a minimum of 2500 energy and 11 - 13 regen rate, get some 3k damage guns...then that should be good enough for you to solo the tier 4 missions even though you might have to try 4 or 5 times. I had toget help for the last 2 tier 4 missions myself....but I solo'd all the rest of them.
Overall, I'd say vortex missions are the hardest of the two rebel squadrons I"ve done.....however, the other 2 squadrons do have a few of the same missions as vortex squadron. One of the last 2 tier 4 missions is the same for pheonix squadron....I know this for sure becuase I had to help someone from phoenix squadron and the mission was the exact same as mine was....
Another thing is that for anyone who has done the imperial missions, they will find the rebel missions a bit easier simply because, as a rebel, you will gain a lot more mass on rebel ships compared to imp ships....that will allow you to add slighty better amount of components on your ships and the addition of all the pilots shield commands is a very big advantage over imperial pilots.....bomber strike might be nice, but rebel shield commands are far more flexible and useful in all occassions.....you can protect yourself better as a rebel pilot (you lose shielding, you can get full shields with emergency shield command....it's nice and will save your hide more times than you know)
