Thread: Y-Wing or Longprobe?

What are the advantages of the Longprobe? I currently have a Y-Wing with mostly level 4 & 5 equipment. What I really want is an X-Wing, so is it worth it to go ahead and buy a Longprobe or just wait until I'm certified for the X-Wing?

The advantage is 2 guns and 2 launchers controllable by the pilot. You'll want to pick one up eventually unless you want to wait for the B-Wing for things that require a bomber's strength.

Longprobe is much better then the Y-Wing (and sometimes the X-Wing too). With the Longprobe you will be able to fire both weapons without a gunner, and it's mass is higher then the Y-Wing. I loved my Longprobe... wishI had enough room to still use it.

I use my Longprobe as a tank, much better than a Y-wing so much better than a Y-wing.

wait till the x-wing

you'll get the cert b4 you know it, and then you'll be like, "crud i didn't use this expensive longprobe much to get my money's worth."

The longprobe is fairly inexpensive as far as chassis go. I did all of Tier three in mine.

get some good re'd components.... jeeeesuuuss. You'll use that longprobe forever... have one gun for shields/high dmg on the components, the other gun for armor... You'll be like *click1, click2,* down goes the tie....

And you've got so much mass... the thing can be a tank, I'm talkin about hella, hella, hella armor and shields...

It's not a dogfighter, but line up a couple good hits and there won't be much left.

Yep, the Longprobe is a tank... proper set up will slice through even those Aggressors and VT's niiiice.

Alright, alright! I'm buying a longprobe...

So from what I've gathered, a good setup would be one gun for shield damage, and one for armor damage? On my Y-Wing, I have 2 guns equiped. Is the reason I can only use 1 is that the other is for another player in a turret? And with the LP, I control and fire both guns?

Also, can anyone post a waypoint for a good ship component vendor on Bloodfin? The one I usually go to only has missiles and launchers. Right now I need some good level 5 equipment, a booster specifically (I'm still using a level 2 booster, haven't looted anything better).

the second gun on the reg. Y-wing is for a gunner only, so put the biggest in the first slot, till you get the longprobe.

Longprobe has 20k more mass than a normal y-wing and you can shoot both guns in a longprobe where the second weapon hardpoint on the normal y-wing is a turret and can only be used when you have a gunner (real player, not npc) flying with you.

x-wing only has 100k mass compared to 170k longprobe and 150k y-wing....has better speed, has 3 weapon hardpoints and better maneuverability....the weapons spread makes it difficult to hit with at varying distancessometimes.

something else to consider about the longprobe and the x-wing.....the only advantage a x-wing has over the longprobe is speed and manueverability....the extra gun won't make that much of a difference especially with the x-wing's wide spread of it's weapons hardpoint's....anyway, the longprobe can be as manueverable as an x-wing...all you need to do is get a decent engine with speeds in the mid to high 80's and PYR preferably in the 70's.....use engine overload 3 or 4 and you will have a longprobe that will be nearly as fast and as manueverable as a x-wing....and siince you will have an extra 70k mass on the longprobe, you can equip some heavy duty shields and weapons and go light on boosters, capacitor (if you have capacitor overload) and droid interface.......all the rest of the parts are optional.....the reactor all depends on how much energy you need to use......if you find the right parts, you shouldn't need more than 15k energy, probably low as 13k.

After you do all the above, there is absolutely no need for an x-wing or an a-wing....because the further you go up the pilot tree, the more power and defense you need....with the x-wing and a-wing, their mass is so low that you won't be able to have both power and defense, you'll have to sacrifice one or the other.

I actually flew my longprobe for every single mission (including the corvette) and mastered pilot....there was only 1 or 2 missions that I used an x-wing on and it sucked because either I didn't have the mass for good shields and got shot down easily (couldn't take many hits) or my weapons were so weak along with the wide spread of the weapons that I spent more time chasing rather then destroying my targets.

IN my opinion the x-wing and a-wing are only good for grouping.....they are only good for speed and manueverability, but like I said, with the droid programs, you can make a LP just as good.

Also, I have my b-wing running on engine overload 4 and I hit 900 speed normally and 1100 with boosters...maneuverability feels just like an average x-wing and better than a longprobe.....only problem with the b-wing is that it's manueverability still lags during turns and such (not as much as it does without engine overload 4 though)and the target reticle moves around the screen when ships get too close (throws my aim off sometimes).
