I for the life of me can't remember what kind of blaster they use...
great thing about red blasters on an a-wing, if you sneak up on someone who is fighting in a swarm of NPC's and not paying attention, you can miss and they don't pay attention to it 
as long as they aren't hammering the target enemy player button

I use a lvl 8 re'd Tri Cannon but I had the Hoersch Kessel Scorcher Advanced cannon put in the re firts so I get pretty, sleek purpley/white tracer fire.
Same with my re'd lvl 7 ion pulse. In fact..whenever I re a gun I always try t get this effect I find that this effect comes attatched with the weapon's actually appearance on your ship fitting in line with what it's supposed to look like. I.E. Cool long blaster tips with the curved outwardly parts on the x-wing and short stubby 'hey looks like we got a couple of blaster rifles and cellotaped them to the side of the ship" look on the A-wing.
