So there I was, minding my own business in Dantooine just about to take on some Rebels on a duty mission (I was overt) when I notice a ship zooming around at breakneck speed. I target it and a name comes up, but no tier.. "Raub" something.
Two shots from him and my shields were gone, and I had about 80% front armor.
No sooner had this happened than he zoomed straight past me and flew off into the distance. He (it?) didn't finish me off or anything, just carried on flying past me and into the distance.
Ordinarily I would've thought this was a player ship or something (how can you tell?) but his ship was travelling so fast and was so agile I couldn't believe it was a PC ship.
Any ideas what this might've been? A Dev? A named ship that spawns intermittently? A player?

A player, probably running Engine Overload 4.

with a good engine and overload 4 and the boosters on a guildi can reach 2100+ speed. So it is a player for sure.

Damn, wonder why he didn't finish me off then?
(S)he couldn't see that you were pre ace and when (s)he figured it out (s)he disengaged.
Or, (s)he likes barn storming faction grinders just to mess with them.
If you are overt, you are red to the opposing faction, no offence but had it been me I would have finished you, faction grinding = more enemy bases = my side not winning.
Those who know me know I am an honorable pilot but if you are PvP enabled and I am PvP enabled that is a chalange I gladly accept.

Pilot courtesy/honor I guess. (S)he technically nailed you, no need to saddle you up with the decay.

That's a fair comment.
I'm quite new to JTL so I had assumed that overt in space was basically the equivalent of Combatant (not Special Forces) on land. I should probably pay more attention to the screen really

One tip, the "z" key is your friend by default this is the binding for "target nearest enemy player".
Another tip, if you get into PvP (or even if you don't) bind a key or button to "target under reticle" this will let you point your ship at what you want to target and target it instantly... it makes a world of diffrence)
Good hunting pilot.
