Does anyone use the Nostromo controller in conjunction with a joystick? I have been thinking I want all my hotkeys away from the keyboard.

I still want to use my Logitech joystick. I am used to it and I switch between chassis fairly often so I don't want to adjust to another joystick, chassis and a new hotkey setup. My old brain can only take so much change at one time! LOL

If you use a joystick, nostromo setup do you have any setup conflicts between the two?

I use a LogitecJoysitck and the N52 Nostromo with no problems, it is very effective because you can use just the buttons on the top of the joystick for fire control and delegate the other controls, throttle, and droid commands, on the N52. In this manner you control you entire ship without having to move your hands from the controls.

--edit--

Just make sure that the joystick is choosen in the game options menu before you log in. Use the loadout manager that comes with the N52to set the N52 buttons to the same keys that you already use on the keyboard. You can switch between 4 different N52 setups in this manner with the press of a button.

Thanks. That sounds exactly how I want to use the setup. No wasted motion and no searching for keys.

Got the Nostromo and am having a problem getting the throttle setup on it. Is there a way to link the mouse wheel to the throttle slider or am I just SOL in that regard?

I fly with a mouse and speedpad.. wasn't able to map the speedpad wheel as a throttle... so I faked it, mapping each scroll 'click' up as an up arrow, same with the down scroll. When this ended up being too slow for throttle adjustments, I doubled it. each scroll 'click' maps to 2 Up/Down arrows. Throttle control isn't quite as fine, but the adjustments are responsive overall.

Considering trying the Saitek X52 if I can find one locally...

Friend of mine has the X52. It's a nice setup, but IMHO the throw on the joystick is way too long for JTL. It may be fine for a real flight sim, but transitioning from turning bottom right to top left just takes too much time IMHO. My buddy loves it though, and he hasn't worn it out yet(we were both in the replace the Logitech every 5 weeks club).

There are macro commands that I usefor throttle controls that I can't recall at the moment, you could map the N-52D-Pad to the arrow keys and use it like that.

I only use the analog throttle on the joystick if I have to stop NOW. The up and down arrows take too long.

I mapped the arrow keys to the pad and it works but like you it is too slow and doesn't have the control that I like on the throttle.

BTW I have heard the early models of the X52 had a extremely large dead zone. Supposedly now that is corrected. I too am looking for a X52 but I really doubt here in cowtown USA I will be able to find one. Oh well time for a road trip. I am not buying one I til I can actually handle it.

For the throttle control on the x52 Nostromo speedpad, I also mapped the up and down scroll to the up/down arrows, and this was too slow. Since I haven't yet found a way to map that wheel to a joystick throttle function (I basically quit looking after I did this) I just recorded a macro on the speedpad that taps the up/down arrows twice for each wheel click.

Eventually I'd like to remap the wheel to a joystick throttle switch, and the d-pad to a POV hat switch, but for now I've put those questions on the back burner.

I'd love to try the Saitek x52, but since the chances of finding a store with that joystick and a JTL demo set up are nil, I want to find it locally from a store with a good return policy. My search continues...
