Ive started the Flash Harrison missions and ive been sent into space to mine an asteroid , the problem im having is this - i blast away at the asteroid yet nothing happens , according to the sticky smaller chunks are supposed to break off but they dont
Anyone else experienced this ?

Stupid question, but do you have the mining equipment loaded in to your fighter? Sometimes it's the obvious that causes the problem...

Yeah, check if you're using the mining laser. 
Sometimes, the large asteroids are bugged too, though. What helps then is shooting them down to zero condition, they're then replaced. Yes, you can /ex them to see the condition.

Sorry i should have stated in the original post that im using the mining laser i also have the cargo hold equipt to my ship

My only advice is to try different asteroids. If killing them and letting them respawn doesn't work, try logging out and back in... Mining is still kind of bugged. At least you're not using the Y-8. lol

I destroyed the asteroid , it was replaced almost instantly by another one which i could mine.
Question now is how do i retreive the resource from the cargo hold ?

Don't be too quick to just sell the resources at the space stations, though. Shipwrights need the stuff to make certain items. Some shipwrights I know offer 50 cpu, which is more than double of that of the highest cpu space stations give you.

Your can either:-
1. Find a mining station or trade federation outpost and sell the contents to them, but be aware that shipwrights will buy them for a lot higher (Fixed: Thanks to the poster below for that info
)-OR-
2. Land your ship, goto your datapad, right click on your ship and choose "unload cargo"
