Thread: Joystick vs Mouse Targetting?

Why is it, that with a mouse, I get this lovely little targetting thing that I just have to move the cursor over the target for the ship, and boom, away it goes, while with the joystick, which I much prefer flying with, I have to pretty much guess where to shoot, because there's nothing nearly that useful for the joystick? Any suggestions on how to know where to aim, aside from "you just get used to it" with a joystick, or should I go to a mouse just cause I kill things so much faster with it?

Ok, so either I made less sense than usual, everyone is backing away slowly and trying not to make eye contact, or there's just no answer at all. Whee!

Honestly..... personal prefrence.

I find flying with the mouse and keyboard a lot easier cos I play a lot of FPS games and it just feels right. Also I have quicker access to my keyboard for group chat or droid commands cos my hand is already there.

On the other hand...A lot of the other really good pilots in my guild swear by joystick and can't imagine ever flying using a mouse at all. We are pretty evenly matched while we are up there (though they tend to be better at boostered rolls and stuff than me) so it's not like they can point at me and go "there's the mouse user LOL" so I guess there's no real answer to that question... comes down to what your are most comfortable with.

Well, you see, my problem is that I really do prefer the joystick. The problem though, is that little targetting advantage called the mouse cursor. I put the mouse cursor over the enemy, click the mouse button a couple times, and boom. With the joystick, it's not nearly so easy. Can't just line up the crosshairs and fire, because I miss. So I get to try to guess where I actually need to shoot in order to hit my target. Mostly wondering if there's some trick to using a joystick that I'm missing, I think.

Have you tried pressing X (or whatever you have mapped your joystick button) while over your target? That should pop the little green target cursor up.
