That mission IS brutally hard....
I've only recently gotten past it myself (and it was after a lot of losses). Eventually went with a dunelizard with the best crafted shields and engines I could find, with two crafted blasters. Droid had all the freelance overloads at level 3 + cap to shield shunt 3, and I had also purchased the chips to install weapon and engine overload 3.
The first step was to kill the fighters quickly, trying to stay on the outskirts of the fight-save the ones hanging near the gunboats for last. This will hopefully keep the CorSec boat and fighters more or less alive. Then, start strafing runs on the gunboats at top speed (starting with the one that has the most shield damage), reverse course when you start taking hits. (If you can attack from underneath, all the better, but as I'm sure you've noticed, they don't stay still). Become VERY familiar with CtSS! When things get ugly, use IFF to buy yourself breathing room.
It will take time, but with two people it IS doable. This allowed me to ALMOST solo this mission (one gunboat was left when it killed me, and it could have gone either way). I imagine a ship with missile payloads might be good backup, too. As someone who hated that mission for weeks, I wish you the best of luck!

when you strafe the gunboat, always strafe its bottom rear...easy get away and there are a couple of brief spots on the bottom where the gunboat won't fire at you but, since the gunboat is always moving, its best to keep moving yourself rather than trying to find that spot.
Also, the gunboat is deadly accurate from its top so never attack it from that pov.
