Thread: An idea concerning Deep Space and Prestige Usage....

I had an idea during some recent pvp on my server, and it seems to me the one big drawback right now to pvp is the amount of time it takes to get back into the action. Getting shot down in deep space for instance is gonna cost you at least 5 minutes in hyper jumps and droid commands, not to mention going overt...

With that in mind I would suggest a "cloning" (for a lack of a better term) type ofoption that would allow a pilot to "clone" his ship per se at the start of a Deep Space session. This initial "clone" could theoretically cost a certain amount of prestige. It would only store 2 things: A player's overt status, and the droid commands the pilot has running at the time of entry into deep space.

Later on, if a player has been shot down and had accepted the "clone" option, the player would then have the option to reload into Deep Space with the same status and droid commands running as when he'd "cloned". This could also cost a certain amount of prestige.

The only downfall I can think of is that it would maybe cut too much time out of the time between getting shot down and returning, though with the average time of a pvp encounter taken into consideration, it wouldnt be all that bad. A timer could also be implemented to make sure a player cant return too quickly, possibly 30 seconds to a minute.

The plusses of this are pretty obvious, it speeds up pvp in Deep Space immensely, and allows for a more addictive kind of pvp experience, something a lot of servers, (including mine), could really use. I think if players didnt have to sink a bunch of time in between skirmishes that more players would give it a fair effort.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Well correct me if iam wrong but you don't need to go overt do you because deepspace is a pvp zone

people would just camp the "clone" sites and shoot you down as you load back in

thats the usual reason given why we dont see this kind of fast-track back to pvp implemented anywhere....that, and this isnt quake or CTF or something where you can zerg and spawn ad nauseum

That can be easily remedied by the devs if they really wanted to... Couple of options I can think of: Multiple spawns sites along that side of the zone, and maybe a 30 sec timer of invuln that is voided the first time the fire button is pressed. Some of the FPS have this down already.

And as for the comment about going overt, why wouldnt you go overt if it was in fact a pvp zone already? There's so much faction up there and with smugglers selling it 85-100 cr/point, there's a ton of money to fight over.
