Yesterday was my fisrt day with the expansion.(I've been on a break for family reasons). Now I've flown alot of WWII combat simulators and so I'm used to leading targets and hitting. It was weird, I would use my own lead and hit the target over and over seemly doing no damage what so ever. Then, if I used the aimpoint, I was doing considerable damage to the target.
What I don't understand is both ways, I was hitting target, why wasn't one working?

I'm going to explain but there's aa point to note first:
KB or KB/Mouse controls behave differently than JoyStick controls.
That being said:
Generally, the Lead Indicator in flight sims (where present)is where you should be shooting. Hence the name...

I've found that in SWG that is in fact, NOT the case.
It is not a "Lead" indicator. It is a Vector Indicator.
This means that shooting in it's general direction will put you close to hitting your target, but is not, infact, where you should be aiming.
For aiming purposes you must do as you would in a game with no Leader, such as CFS3:
Manual Targetting.
Manual Targetting.
You will find, however, that there is a "sweet Spot" and using the Vector Indicator as the guide for that will help you out.
Direct hits are thrown off by shields.
You need to place your shots "into" the layer between the ship and the shields.
This is also known as "deflection aiming".
As I general rule, I've found that trying to land the hits on the cockpit yeilds best results.

is a lag problem
the enemy you see on your screen is actually in a different position for the server...
as is the client that handle the graphic it think that you are hitting the enemy and it seem that you are hitting the enemy, but when the server calculate the shot/hit here that the enemy is not in the same position and it score a miss.
for sure you noticed that the target indicator is a bit further than it should be, this was doing during beta to compensate this lag problem.

I thought they would be toying around with this. Not wanting to get used to a certain position based on the "bad" lead, I started practising hitting ships blindly. Its easiest to do on those duty missions with 10 ships coming at you. Let the target stay on a ship and just start shooting at the nearest one. Pretty soon I forgot all about the targetting and don't need it now.
