This may be a re-post, and if so, I'm sorry....too tired to look any longer.
Is there a way to drop the Imperialist (or rebel) flag after entering Deep Space if you are a privateer? Only reason being, I still help alot of buddies on space missions, and on some of the higher level ones, can't afford to be attracting all the extra, unwanted attention of being flagged as an imperial.
For those that don't understand my question, you likely wont have an answer for me, but I will explain anyways. As a privateer, you have to choose a side when entering Deep Space, unfortunatly, that doesn't seem to go away after leaving Deep Space.

Hmm... I usually only get stuck as rebel or imperial with regards to Kessel, in all other zones I am still neutral. So, when I help out rebs in kessel I travel to DS as reb firs,t and get rebel flagged for kessel, or I do the same for imperials. It helps avoiding attention fromNPCs if you don't aggro your allied NPCs due to astrayshot hitting a friendly. If you are stuck as rebel in all zones then that's a more serious bug.

You might be right, I really only noticed it helping out in Kessel. How do you go get unflagged....or flagged neutral again?

I am not sure it is possible. I remained flagged through several server resets. Though seeing as I usually managed to aggro both sides in kessel thanks to some NPC flying into my shots while I was shooting an enemy NPC of said NPC I kind of like the flagging, makes it easier to help out on missions with allied NPCs.
I'd call a CSR, though you'll end up flagged again after the next visit to DS. You may have to get used to switch the flags depending on your needs.

Freelance can't go overt and get FP in DeepSpace. There are quite a few topics covering this, although none stickied (I don't think). Basically, Freelance Pilot's just get to farm money and parts in Deep Space. If you want FP, go to Kessel

It is not about going overt, it is about getting treated by rebel and imperial NPCs in Kessel as if you are an imperial pilot after you entered Deep Space once by passing yourself off as an imperial (and the same goes if you passed into DS by choosing rebel, you are treated ever after as a rebel by the NPCs in Kessel.).

You must redeed you ship (ya I know its a pain) to remove the "flag" after traveling to deep space. I have to do this after I hit deep space to be able to kill Rebels (I am Rebel on ground) in Kessel.

Yeah, redeeding's the only method I found that corrected this. Something of a hassle for singleplayer ships, but not undoable; still, it'd be nice if they got around to fixing this.
