i'm not really worried about misles but i was wondering if any of the countermeasures works against blast cannons?

Good shields.

Countermeasures are useless against blasterfire.

None of them. counter measures only work against incomming missles.

Just defensive flying will help ya

Best thing to do is find someone that was willing to waste days to weeks to find the best setup for their ships. These people studied everything they could with JTL to find a setup that would be able to dominate all. Sadly to say, I am one of those people.

Basically, I can kill the corvette in 5 passes if I go in properly. Didn't bother asking if you were imp, neut, or reb, but if you're imp, use bomber strike before going in, the vette will aggro the strike team you called and free you up for one pass. This pass, you want to launch everything you've got at it , and target the second half numbers of the turrets, this will insure their destruction.

Easy enough after the turrets are gone, hide from the guboats and drop the shields, when you down the engines wait a bit for the gunboats to leave, and you're in the clear.

If you're neut, IFF scramble is your friend to drop the aggro. If you're rebel, can't help ya.

My setup for busting the vette is 2 3700 max dmg exp blasters, 3 mark 3 proton torpedo launchers, reactor ol 4/engine, weapon, cap ol 3, and a nice BS 3.

If you were on corbantis, I'd do all the work for ya.

Speed and manoeverability is an asset too - the Kihraxz (that still looks like a jumble of letters to me), A-wing and some of the TIEs have little mass for heavy shields and armour, but because they can move fast, twitch and have lowish profile they get hit less often.

I have to laugh when Master Imperial Pilots talk about how they can solo a Corvette but can't give any advice to Alliance pilots and only say 'IFF' to Neutrals. Knowing what the Corvette is, what systems do and what happens when you blow them, what turrets can shoot is various arcs, etc - that understanding, in my opinion, is what will make a Corvette assault go smoothly.

I'm a Freelance pilot and tend to pick on Corvettes in Kessel, both the Corellian Corvette and the Star Ravager. The Star Ravager is much, much more difficult a convoy to destroy. The escort fighters are faster and more maneuverable, as well as including a pair of Tier 5 Aggressors. That, and the fact that Imperial Gunboats have several more turrets and much smaller blindspots makes the Ravager a nasty target. The fact that a single Bomber Strike can wipe most of the turrets off of a Corellian Corvette means Imperial pilots have it easy.

Back to the topic at hand...

It can be painful to learn, but the best way to stop getting hit by a gunboat or corvette is to learn where the turrets can fire. For the corvettes, turret number 5 covers most of the bottom - destroying it makes most of the space 'below' the ship one big blindspot. If you are ever unsure about which way is 'up' and 'down' then face the ship and press Ctrl + '/' - that will auto-level your ship to the same approximate orientation as all the npc gunboats and capitol ships.

For Imperial gunboats, attack from below and behind. If you are to far forward then the chin turret will aim down on you and if you are too far back the rear turret will hit you. There is, though, a nice sized area where neither can hit you.

As far as survivability goes, you should have some decent Shields and Armor for your ship, just for starters. Having a set of level 3 Droid Programs is a must, as well. I'd love for the devs to fix the bugged Programs and do another pass to 'balance' everything a bit better, but until then I will be using EO3, WO3, CO3, and Cap>Shield4 in my Duneliz.

Dezrick, the Kihraxz is certainly a quick little fighter, but I think the 45k additional mass of the Dunelizard (over double Kihraxz) is worth more than the slightly better speed and turning. It's all a give and take, and like everything else I've said, it's just my opinion.

Well, if you want to laugh at an Imperial Pilot for soloing the Vette last night without using Bomber Strike, feel free. I called in the Bomber Strike, and it failed, of course, but I went in anyways. Managed to pull it down to nothing but the bridge by the time the mission holder finally got into kessel to start blasting it. Don't go and say I know nothing about the firing arcs because I prefer to use BS on the Corvette instead of go in with a higher risk of dying. Last night, I proved I could do it without the use of a bomber strike, so feel free to say "no imperials can do this without Bomber Strike."

If you can't figure out the arc of the turrets on your first pass, and which ones need to go down when, then you must not have a mind able to comprehend simple physics/geometry, but yeah, go ahead, tell me I know nothing.

Bit contradictory there, but anyway.

I don't think bomber strike is best used to actually do anything on this mission, its there to make a mass of targets for the gunboats while you go about the business of hitting the 'vette. While they are getting blown up, you are getting a job done.

One other thing I have found is junking missile launchers for bigger guns is well worth it, especially RE'd reward guns. No target on the vette can handletwo 2.5k plus damage guns on it for more than a couple of seconds.

Eziz, Shona said that he/she laughs at imperials using B-Strike to take out the vette because you gave that advise, so don't feel attacked because you said you used it.

Most imperials that tried an IMP pilot and now do the neutrals agree that the IMP NPC ships are a lot tougher, harder to hit and additionally some fire to the rear (why does the y-wing not do that as NPC??)as the rebel NPC's.

And alltho one Aggressor is not really a problem for a half decent pilot, a group of fighters, 2 aggressors and the vette with her gunboats ARE a problem

Take the 4 days it needs to master a second profession and go corsec or smuggler and try popping the Star Ravager alone, you'll end black barred and most probably without the time to stop the darn thing before it jumps.

I managed to wipe the escort alone one time, but that was luck and it tooktoo long so the vette jumped.

Smallest group Itookthat thing out was 3 people: 2 masters (Rebelwith B-Wing and 2 Mark5 SB's and me in a Krayt)1 tier 4 pilot in an x-wing and we all got pretty black barred.

*Edit* btw if anyone is on Chimaera and needs a hand to take out the Star Ravager just send a tell to Tzimovo, I helped quite a few peeps to get their badge up there and have a little howto with the wp's I can send around

I apologize if what I wrote seemed like a person attack against you or your flying abilities. I did not mean it that way. The text that prompted my remarks was this:

If you read that I hope you understand from where I'm coming. The tactics you advocate are essentially to become an Imperial and use Bomber Strike. I like to inform people that there are other options available. You seem to be capable with out BS, but your original post did not attempt to mention any other way.

Last night, I proved I could do it without the use of a bomber strike, so feel free to say "no imperials can do this without Bomber Strike."

I never meant to say anything like that. As far as I know I never did say anything like that. I'm sorry if you wereso offended by me that you feel I said something like that.

For a little bit of perspective: I went up the Imperial Inquisition path to Master pilot and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Squint and Advancedwill always be a couple of my favorite ships. Sadly, I did not stay devoted long enough to try out an Oppressor. I did, though, take some trips to Deep Space and blew through half of the Rebel fleet. Alone. I understand what Imperial craft are capable of, just as well as I understand what Freelance (CorSec and SA)and Rebel (went Vortex there) craft are capable of.

Sorry to have wasted everyone's time readed this, just didn't want to let him come back and try to write off my post as an attack against him, his abilities, his ships, his Faction, and his wingmates.

I think I just took your comment the wrong way. Basically, I wish the Y-Wings would use their rear turret in PvE. I'd like to have a challenge sometime with NPC's. The only real difficulty I see coming from the Imperial Vette would be those Aggressors. I'd be able to have at least an equal if not better layout on the Tier 4 Neutral Pilot Missions, and the way I manage to down Tier 5 ships, I think it may pose some challenge on the aggressors, the easiest way to take care of the escort would be to disable them. The layout on the weapons isn't much different between the 2 corvettes, so my tactics on hitting them would only have to be altered slightly. Figuring one missile per turret really leaves you on the better end when attacking from the underside.

Right now, it's not an option to retire pilot because I've got an open invitation to my server to help any imperial/rsf pilots get through any mission they want. As of right now, I have a list of about 20 people that require/will require my help soon. Thus far, I've gotten 2 people to ace almost single-handedly. One of those runs, I couldn't use bomber strike because it failed, so while I had someone poppin at the A-Wings, pulling them off me, I went in, destroyed everything, took out all but the Bridge, and waited for the mission holder to show up from there. So I bypassed the fighter escort, OK, it wasn't really a solo job in that case, but considering there were only 6-10 ships escorting, figure somewhere around 3-5 minutes to disable all fighters tops, then an additional 3 to disable the vette. I could go on, but I'm gonna keep repeating myself and make myself look dumber than I am.

Once again, I appologize for taking your comment personally, I'm used to getting flamed on my forums for ideas, such as the TKM alliance and whatnot. Anyhow, happy hunting.
