Thread: Theory: The Y-8 bugged mission isn't bugged

You know, I've been thinking about this for a while now. We're all pretty aware of the Y-8 issue at this point. Launch into Kashyyyk space, and no waypoint. Obviously, this is a bug, right? I'm not so sure. Waypoints in space are obviously not bugged. Handing out waypoints in space is obviously not bugged, too. Kashyyyk space isn't bugged, because people are still completing the Vaksai/RGI/Advanced X-wing quests, which require waypoints. I'm starting to find it quite hard to believe that the quest is really bugged.

Now, this is just a theory, but I'm tossing it out to see if it seems plausable to anyone else. We know that the Y-8 has performance problems. It's a pain in the butt to pilot, there are issues with the guns functioning, the turrets are poorly located, and it is just plain innefective for mining. Hell, you can't even really use it as a house, since moving things up and down in there is bugged. Ever since the Y-8 went into the game, they were getting complaints about it. They've announced that they have plans to revamp the Y-8 to make it more effective. Not that plans to revamp anything stop complaints, but they are doing something with it.

Now, what if they turned the quest off? Obviously, this would be vastly unpopular to the players who don't have their own Y-8 yet. I was kind of busy actually learning to fly (as opposed to that "floating around in space and kind of sort of maybe shooting a blaster in the general area of my enemies" thing that I had been doing since the begining of February), so I didn't get mine in time. My wife got hers, though, thanks in part to me getting my 3322, no-droid-commands, flying-a-TIE-bomber-and-getting-out-flown-by-space-rocks butt handed to me by distracting the asteroid bandits while she mined the stuff in Kessel. So, the devs are looking at the Y-8. The thing is barely useable and badly in need of an upgrade. More and more players are getting theirs every day, and are seeing the flaws, causing even more complaints. Can't turn the quest off until the revamp, because that will cause even MORE complaints. What do you do?

Make a "bug". Obviously, they can't bug all waypoints in space, because there is no way they could ignore that for any length of time. It would completely negate all the work they've done to get people actually up there and flying. So they just "bug" that one mission. Yes, people are complaining about the bug, but is it really any more widespread than the complaints that the Y-8 wasn't usable? I don't think so. Besides, we're kind of used to having bugs overlooked out here, so the delay in the fix really isn't going to surprise us.

This is just a theory, but given that the "bug" seems completely isolated to this one quest, it's got the gears in my head turning. I think that we'll see the bug get fixed right around the time that they get the Y-8's problems fixed, too.

Hmmm, option

A: an elaborate conspiracy by SOE to cut down the number of complaints on a single issue while people are screaming about a lot of other things. And they actually manage to disable a single waypoint, with their track record you'd expect all waypoints in space to get broken.

or

B: They accidentily broke the quest while fixing the heavy-x/RGI/Vaksai quest (or something else space related). Which is consistent with their track record.

I'll go for B, unless Hoffa get's found, CIA admits to having hired a 2nd gunman in dallas, Monroe's and Elvismurderers step forward to confess and aliens land and admit they've built the pyramids.

or you could take a spacer guild, flood kashyyk space with them and make them fly circles... to see if they can find it...

The SoE code :
SOE improvement is a lie, there is only nerfing.
Through nerfing, they gain whines.
Through whines, you gain gankings.
Gankings, leads to sploits.
Sploits leads to banning.
And banning sets us free.

I don't think the mission was turned off. I didn't mention it before, but there's another Kashyyyk space mission that has the same bug. Launch or hyper into Kashyyyk...and nothing happens.

(The mission I'm referring to is an escort from a Trandoshan in the slaver camp further to the north.)

Yup, I was going to say the same thing as Halyn. There are two missions that got bugged in the same fashion at the same time. If they were going to "turn off" a mission due to problems further down the line, then you simply would never have been giveneither mission. As it is, the mission is handed out, resides in your datapad, and never does a blessed thing when you launch or arrive in the correct sector.

Well, it kinda makes sence to me. I know about the reasons it shouldn't be true, but I think it is none the less. So, theoretically, if you could get someone who GOT the Y-8, and still has the WP in their Datapad, you should be able to go to the WP and the mission start. Besides, If it was a truly accidental bug, like the others that are related to quests or missions, wouldn't there be something wrong with other parts of the quest? The other parts went off with out a single problem

Anyone with the correct WP to the Y-8 Escort Mission, please post it and I'll try it out Monday and report back.
