Thread: Having problems with Gunships

So, I've made it to privateer 4444 with a full box of master xp almost entirely solo and bought a Greivous which is a nice little ship. I got a nice reward engine from Nym and even looted a BS ace helmet. But all is not well. The problem is that I can't seem to handle any ship with a turret. Especially if they have more than 1.

I've read various hints about firing from 550m out or tring to stay in blind spots but I can't seem to get them to work in action. The gunship seems too maneuverable for me to keep in the right position. So what do I need to do:

1. Use more droid programs. I've been sort of avoiding these to keep from making the game too easy. I still don't have a WO and would like to avoid WO3 if possible.

2. Use missiles. I've avoided these for mass reasons and also because I can't stand the locking on sound so would have to disable them anyway. Maybe I need them against bigger targets.

3. Get a bigger ship. I could try to put together a heavy that could dish out and take more punishment but I thing my B22 has spoiled me as far as speed/maneuverability goes.

4. Get better at reading the radar. I'm not a fan of the SW style of radar and would rather have an elite style one for better 3D visualization. I guess I don't have gread situational awareness and even have trouble escaping from the gunships in a reasonably efficient way.

5. Something else

Please help me, you are my only hope.

A) were you aware that you dont need "a full box of Master xp?" Just do the missions from the NPC you were sent to.

B) you need to learn top from bottom on a gunboat. once you do it's very easy to take out the gunboats that travel on rails, like you see in Kessel or other sectors. Find the blindspot, match speed, point at the hull, and open fire. as the gunboat passes overhead, be ready to turn and dive back down under it, before the tailgun comes in range. target wepon2 to eventually eliminate the tailgun and allow for easy following to finish off the gunboat.

C) target a gunboat without engaging in combat. cycle through the guns and learn where they are. The imperial gunboats have a smaller blindspot, but that's only speaking relatively. It's still huge.

D) if you're trying to deal with mission spawned intelligent Chaser gunboats, its a different story

Yes but I need some nice engines to match my Nym's reward and my final missions involves a gunboat. So I got the useless xp but not Master yet.

Maybe I should practice on these rail following gunboats. Any that I can get to without being a master first? The one I have in this mission is pretty active.

This sounds like a good Idea as well.

Yes that is my problem I guess. I'm beginning to have some sucess jousting it. Maybe witha slightly better loadout I can do it that way. Once the engine is gone I should be home free I guess. Can you hit the engine from the front?

Ahh I was unaware we were talking about THAT gunboat. I know it well

Yes, your best bet is to joust it, you can damage subsytems by hitting anywhere on a gunboat. It's only on true cap ships that you need to target and hit the specific part.

I recmommend learning how to joust by making a spiral at the beast, and try to pass on the underside as you strafe.

Good luck

Despite the fact you have tried to avoid droid commands, there are 2 nutral commands that I use that help alot. cap overload 3 and cap to shield shunt 3. neither gives me more power, just able to shoot more, and a little better on defences when you kick in the shield shunt.

I find they aren't uber commands so it should not make things too easy, just more managable......

But I also do not consider myself to be an uber or elite pilot, just good enough from being blown up all the time, so others might find they have too much of an upper hand with evan these commands, but I say they help out just right....
