Ok, so I just came back 2 weeks ago after not playing this game for about a year. I had soo much fun in the first few days that I got the total expierence. I instantly fell in love with the space combat aspect, though I put it on hold for a few days to get my ground template done.

So, now I am 1111 in Imp pilot and not really sure how to level up. I did 2 of the 3 missions the inquisitor offers at the Imp retreat, but neither seem to offer that much xp reward...so I would assume that means I need to grind for a bit. Tier 1 ships dont provide much xp and tier 2 don't seem all that available....so what are suggestions for getting my tier 2 boxes knocked out? I have decent ship that I can deal with tier 2 rebels easily and I have beaten tier 3s with out much work..havnt gone against 4s yet.

Any help that could be offered would be much appreciated.

It's simply going to take time unless you find someone willing to take you to Kessel in their PoB ship.

I did the missions that had you going up against waves of fighters that increased by 1 for each wave up to three waves and then you had to take out a boss fighter. If you do three of those in a row before landing you should end up with 20 to 30k of XP which is pretty good and it doesn't take too long to get that far.
