Greetings,

I am currently up against the 1st tier 3 Storm Squadron mission on Endor, It consistantly kicks my @#$. I have read some posts saying that having bomber strike helps alot. However I can't seem to get any training from the SS imps on Yavin or Bestine. Is it possible to train tier 3 skillswhile involved inthe tier 3 missions? If so How do I go about it?

Your trainer will train one box for you after each mission. There is no XP cost in Tier 3, but you must finish the mission to get training.

Getting the first box in tier3 for SS is one of the biggest humps in the game. It can be done solo, just take advantage of what you already have (and for god's sake don't grab the Tactics box once you get past this mission, get Equipment).

-Make sure you have the best L5 shield you can find

-Make sure you have a decently fast/agile engine

-an REd L5 gun made with a little care should be better than a crafted one, but its not a necessity

-when I say what you already have, I mean look at all your boxes. especially if you dont have droid programs running on your ship yet.

-disable instead of kill, killing takes too long.

final, not so subtle hint: just because you can't program a higher level program, doesnt mean you cant buy a chip for it and use it. a v2 flight comp will hold 2 level3 overload programs, and those, coupled with the gear I mentioned above, can get you past this mission.

At 2/2/2/2, you can use a v3 FC anyway, and that's 70 points of space. You could manage WCO3, WO3, CtSS3 and EO2 in that (just make sure you have enough reactor power if you do that).

Ahh, that one gave me some fits, too

I take it you are having trouble with one or both of the tier 4 spawns that are nearby? I had to do this mission 3 times (and I am not used to failing missions, heh) because of this, and here it sounds like you may be having the same problem(s).

At some point in the mission, you have to dock with a Lambda shuttle to repair it, then escort it. The problem is, the shuttle always appeared for me in the exact same spot, which was really close to a quartet of tier 4 aggro Z95's. I could approach and dock with the shuttle without getting aggro, but as soon as I *popped off* the shuttle, they all attacked me...every time. I recommend just disabling all 4 of them before you dock with the shuttle, and save yourself a lot of headache.

The next problem I believe occurs after you complete that escort...you have to do another, and it also wanders too close to a tier 4 swarm of stuff in Black Sun ships, but keep this in mind: Every time for me, that escort ended very shortly after reaching that spawn, so perhaps you can hang back a bit, and wait for the mission completed, then move on to the last objective. Or, you can disable as many as you need to. An important note at this stage...I have never cheesed a mission before in my career as a pilot, but on this one I tried one of those *in system* hyperjumps because I got a bit sloppy and got nailed by a couple tier 4's...any rebel ships that have spawned *will* follow you to your jump point.

This is really one of the crappier SS missions, imo, simply because the two points of highest chance of failure occur late in the mission, and doing those escorts over and over really sucks, heh. It gets better, hang in there...not easier, but better

If I might make a suggestion: Once you pass this mission, you have the choice of which to train. If you have some *good* level 6/7 equipment that will for certain fit in your ship, choose the equipment tree first. If you don't, choose the astromech tree first. For an Imp or Freelance pilot, there are no exceptions to choosing either equipment or droid first at tier 3 because they are the two most valuable trees. A case could be made for a Rebel pilot choosing ships first at tier 3, though. I think a lot of new pilots make the mistake of taking ships first in tier 3 and in SS, this can really make your life a lot harder. Some folks love the Interceptor, myself, I never even bought one...went straight from Tie/In to T/Adv.

Enjoy, and grats on pursuing Storm Squadron. This is just my opinion but...I personally think that soloing SS is more difficult than surviving in Deep Space.

In a 1 gun tie, I wouldn't even bother with WCO, and use EO3 instead. I can see how the charge might help with CtSS, but then again, if im zippy enough, I wont be getting hit. The trouble with this mission wasn't so much getting beat on a lot, it was that I knew I needed to do enough damage fast enough to keep up. Disabling quickly, and getting to the next target quickly, seemed a lot more helpful to me than the ability to soak damage.

That depends entirely on who's gunning for you in Deep Space. I don't think you'd say that if you were there on my shift

Indeed

Listen to the bunny, a fountain of valuable knowledge he/sheis.

I also found that doing SS, that unless you are a wickedly fast killer (10 seconds max per ship, regardless of type),disable is your best friend. I forgot to emphasize that.

Psikobunny - Might I ask your gender (real or character, makes no difference), because I would like to be able to refer to youwith the correct pronoun. *None of your damn business* is also an acceptable answer, heh.

Ahh, Psiko, I would love nothing more than to fly against someone that is considered to be a really good pilot. Not for bragging rights, not for ego, but to see where I really stand, and learn where I could improve, both in terms of my own skills/techniques,and in those of my ship as well. One of these days, I hope to find Janu in DS...

That being said, speaking from a PvE standpoint, SS solo is more difficult than DS, imo.

Domingo

Edit: pronouns might be for losers, but I would hate to refer to you as *it*...
